Just a little railfanning this week. Various wrecking equipment at the Durango roundhouse. I’ve got a siding planned for it someday, but this works for now. Hate to have to get anywhere fast going across the turntable.
Some shots from the hot air balloon ride over Red Mountain.
Then we drifted over the mountain and down past Animas Forks.
And how about a prototype shot? I’m not much on anything RR past 1975, so after living here 20 years, finally made my way to the tracks about 3 blocks away and caught the local just before it tied up.
Mike,
Nice Shots, I still love that dropcenter HOn3 Flat!!!
Yeah, I lost a few of them, took a while to get focused, I tried to challenge myself.
However, on the same tiny PE fret, they have individual grab irons, i did NOT go there!
I do want to put on the coupler cut bars/pin lifters though.
I also relocated the horn.
Great work everyone! Here’s a couple of ex-Moffat Road lokies rounding the curve at Wagon Wheel Gap with an eastbound freight. Last year, the 2-8-2 and the 2-6-6-0 were sporting Denver & Salt Lake markings.
Love the new Challenger. It IS a brute, and it looks like a very nice model. And Tom, what a beautiful steamer you have there at the head end. The curvature must be near 35"?
Well, here’s the first truly publishable image from my new layout. I have been working on the scenery, and have much left to do. For example, the tracks at present are just ballast and rails with no weathering or trackside details, etc. I will get to that in time. For now, here is what a C&O Heavy Mountain looks like, drifting down grade out of the South Portal on Elephant Mountain. Why that name? Its profile is a lot like the back of a recumbent elephant, and it shares the name given locally to a similar mountain near where I grew up in my teenage years.
Once again, another weekend of outstanding modelling work and photography to inspire me to continue to improve my skills. Chad, looking forward to seeing the finished Z scale loco. Crandell, I have to mention how much I have enjoyed, and learned, from your efforts. Thanks to all for taking the time to share your work. A lot of great-looking roundhouses this weekend.
