WEEKEND PHOTO FUN - April 7-8-9

Actually, I was out of town on business this week (DELTA stands for Don’t Expect Luggage To Arrive, by the way) so these are snaps from last week:

The Penny Lane subway station is coming along, with the platforms now topped with their hydrocal floors. I also detailed 3 of my 4 subway cars, adding the chains and the gates on the ends of the cars. The chains are from Diesel Details, 40 links to the inch, and the gates are from Images Replicas. The moose is a Preiser, but he had a token so I couldn’t turn him away.

LOL. That moose is in the wrong place.

Nice detail MB. I like the moose, but I’m from Minnesota and that could happen.

Been working on the logging camp with the hillside and swanp. I can’t seem to get a good pic of the swamp… Here is the rock with the mother showing her son the camp where dad works, Its better with trees

Here is a shot if the tree trunks, why I am not using just tree tops for this part

Here is an attempt to get a shot up a white pine, how we see them in Minnesota.

As the detail increases, the photography becomes more difficult. I have tossed 50 shots of the swamp. One more thing to learn. I did get my DCC to work on IR. That was fun.

Nice photos all.

All I got is a few general shots of my layout as it looks now. I’m almost done with making trees. Just a few DOZEN more to go. [sigh]

The glare from that shop light makes it difficult to capture this scape from this angle.

The view right through my bedroom door.

The entire backdrop is finished being painted. [yeah] I love drawing, but painting on a vertical surface with a layout under me isn’t my cup of tea.

MisterBeasley, why am I thinking about grilled steak??? That Moose is gonna get hurt if it hangs around much longer.

Arthill, those pines are great and I really like the top photo.

I have been doing some benchwork in the new room. I have pretty much decided on the track plan so now I can complete the benchwork. I will have a nice long straightaway on this wall.

A workbench made from old kitchen cupboards has been moved to the area behind the new wall. It will some day have more hobby saws and equipment.

A bit of work has taken place on some scenery. This area will link the Icehouse and the old Arthur Farm together. It will also be rural/country scenery.

P.S. Nice work as usual Aggro. Love those trees! (You posted while I was writing mine.)

You mean they have subways in Minnesota???

That reminds me of those Kahlua commercials. I’m having a bottle right now.

I got to go railfanning today![:D] Haven’t been railfanning in awhile. Here are some of my favorite shots.

Any weekend where you see a real caboose is a winner. Thanks for the image, Scotty. Now, warp factor 4, please.

Great pics all. Wish i had a digital camera and the know how to put pics on the computer. And a faster connection, only 2 minutes to download these pics. The moose reminds me of Northern Exposure.

Aggro, that bridge abuttment is A-1. You’re giving me ideas for the Micro-Engineering 160’er that is in the mail to me as I type.

Nice work everyone.

Aggro,
You’ve come a long way, my friend! Looking good. Dave

In a separate post entitled “Soaking my loco” I had asked about how to strip paint from a factory painted loco shell. I received many replies to which I would once again say thank-you. You guys are great!

So here are the fruits of my labour this weekend. I striped the modern CN Black/white/red factory paint off a GP9m, and painted it in the old CN Green & Yellow livery. I am very pleased with the results. I know some of you purests are going to say “CN didn’t have a GP9m in that livery”…that’s what the LHS guys said too. I know already! I am freelancing my layout and for my pleasure I have choosen the Green & Yellow livery of CN in the good old days.

This is a picture of the shell in progress

And this is a picture of the newly finished GP9m in CN Green & Yellow livery with my other two factory painted Green & Yellow loco’s. Sorry, the lighting sucks! I’ll get a better pic of my full roster as it grows.

Keep up the great work guys.

Trevor

I put a window extension on my DMIR SD45T-3.

Ack, I just can't do it captain, but the engines just can't handle the power. Ye cannot change the laws of physics.

[:D]

Great work as usual, everybody!

Another weekend has come and gone, but I don’t have a whole lot of new stuff to show that’s worth taking pictures of. I needed a cheap structure to stick in the southwest corner, so I used some scraps of Evergreen, picked up a few $1 cans of spray paint from Wally World and threw together the false-front perishable foods warehouse in these two pics. It’s copied from the Walthers background Auto Plant structure that lists for $30. Both the building and the scene are far from finished, but I’m only using this as a ‘placeholder’ for the time being. I was too lazy to drag out the tripod so I just used the flash, pix aren’t too high quality.

The same building with two reefers:

Art, that logging camp is inspiring. I keep thinking that one of these days I’ll build the redwood empire.

MB, love the moose.

Aggro, the backdrop looks great, but I have to ask. What are the barrels and crates doing under the bridge.

I was going to grace you all with a picture of the rocks I’ve been painting, but I did that last week and they just look like more of the same. I also moved all the electrical out of a wall I going to demo. A four-gang light switch bank is not worth the bandwidth. One of these days I’m going to have a picture to show you guys. One of these days…

Great pics as always guys…

MB:that is coming alon VERY nicely. great pics
Aggro : inspiring as always, I never tire of seeing your fantastic work
Art: that scenery looks awesome, I know what you mean about deleting 50 pics, thank G , its digital or I would be buried in rolls of film and bad pics!!
Trevor, great paint job !! how does the saying go?? “its your railroad do what makes YOU happy” I wouldnt know if CN did or didnt have a GP9 in green, I’ll just admire your work for what it is.
Chip, I’m with you, one day soon, maybe next week, maybe the next, but we will get there.

Have fun & be safe
Karl.

Thanks, for the compliments. I appreciate it.

Ken–that backdrop has incredible amount of depth to it. Great job.

Chip–there used to be a shed trackside under that bridge. it was removed, but the details near it were left behind.

TrevorG–Fantastic! Now you’ll have a TOTALLY unique model.

Dave–did you finish dismantling your old layout yet?
