Nice layout coal-train![^][8D][:D]
Hey, Coal Train, you rock!! Thanks for the pix.
Coal-train instantly became one of my idols!
Welcome to the forum.
Well, with great aprehension I post some “in progress” shots of my layout. I’m working with 2.5 by 5 feet of space with the scenic divider down the middle. I thought it would be nice to start on something small to be able to enjoy everything from track, DCC, to scenery techniques. BTW, its atlas code 55 throughout, sculptamold with paint topped with woodland scenics ground foam.
WELL Mr Coal Train, i salute you, that’s one awsome railroad you have there
Here’s some more pictures of the area i tore out and re laid this week,
Grande Man and BN U30C, thanks for looking at my site, CHIP, this is what went into the space i made, it look’s better now i have painted the concrete roadway’s the paints a bit wet in places so it’s still a bit glossy, bits of it should dry almost white with black stains in places,
Enjoyed your site, Steve. You’re a man after my own heart modeling the Joint Line…[8D]
The rerouted area looks great. Very realistic. I was in a hotel room on web TV when I replied to your thread on Wednesday and was having some problems navigating the forum so I was a little brief. I think you made a significant improvement to an already awesome railroad.
My photo’s for photo fun are in my railimages link in my signature. Enjoy everyone.
Didn’t do much on the MR this week except run trains[:P]. Here’s some photos I took of a coal train over Yuba Summit.
Crossing Upper Rock Creek Bridge at foot of Sierra Buttes
Leaving water tower at Bassetts, heading toward Yuba Pass Tunnel
Exiting Yuba Pass tunnel on east side of Sierras
Crossing Dark Canyon on east side of Yuba pass. Grade is 2.25% descending.
Dark Canyon and Lemon Canyon bridges on east side of Yuba pass.
Wish I could get the hang of this new camera, though. Oh well–
Tom [:I]
Coal-train:
Please tell me more about your layout and scenery methods. It’s looking very good!

I’m new to this forum, mostly hang out at the Atlas HO forum but my guess is that it will be closing for summer soon and I think I will make this my new home, for a while anyways.
These photo were taken from the last time I had an operating session on my layout.
I posted this photo of my fictional railroad (the Roanoke & Southern) last weekend in the Atlas Sunday photo fun but I like this photo so much that I thought I would kick off my new start here with it. This is a photo of a coal shifter returning with a loaded coal train. I used photo shop to add some brake smoke and some heat blur. I also used a little photo shop to cut the water heater out of the back ground, in the future I will make a temporary back drop to block it out.
Here is a tank car that was spotted at City Fuels.
Another coal shifter finishes up spotting MTY hoppers at a coal tipple.
A steam locomotive is spotted over the pit for an inspection between runs, looks like the report is not good.
Westmoreland’s company store was still the only place in town in the 50’s to buy what you needed in this mountain town.
Here is the once daily mixed train to Roda.
A mine shifter returns to the yard with another loaded coal train.

Tom, that’s a fantastic RR you’ve got there! I always look forward to your pics. Why did you have to build the thing across the country from me? [:D] I bet it’s even better in person.
I know what you mean about the camera. I borrowed a very nice digital Sony from a buddy but can’t seem to make it perform the way he does (he used to be into photography seriously). I’m experimenting with smaller apertures/longer exposures and am getting much better results than with my cheapie Sony cybershot but I still have plenty of learning to do.
Here we go anain with some more photo’s
Grande Man, glad you like the pic’s, i just require some more Rio Grande Power on the loco roster
SD45 leading an F45 and a BN GP38-2 on a short hopper train, followed by a shot of a GP40-2 switching at the Chorley industrial area
and here is a new SD60 in the Oakway leasing blue paint job, very nice loco just got to add the details
Tail end.
Man, I miss cabooses on real trains.[V]
Brakeman on GP35. Woodland Scenics must have forgotten his eyes![:D]
Talking caboose’s here’s my latest Genesis model
Nice caboose, Steve. And trust me, I’m careful who I say that to! [:D]
Hi Guys .
Im checking in ,im working on a couple of differnt things,im not sure ill have any pics for you this weekend …but ill try ,
Everyones Photos Look excelant!!!
carl…
Steve: Need some Rio Grande power? Oooh, it’s CATCHING!!! Get a tunnel motor, they’re WAY cool!
Coal Train: WOW! (Or, as my German ancestors would say: VOV!). That is some magnificent modeling there. Hope you post lots more of your layout, it looks fantastic!
Grande Man: That’s my problem, I’m using a little Sony Cybershot. Think it’s time I visited Best Buy and explain to the people there that I didn’t buy the camera to take snapshots of Aunt Ethel at her 107th Birthday party, LOL! Maybe I can get something that will help me take in-focus closeups like yours. Now I know why you and Aggro have such warm lighting in your photos–you guys are in a room, and I’m in a garage.

Nothing new this week, so I took a couple pics !
Some GE action!! B30-7 5542 exiting Pine Cliff Tunnel
A pair of Dash 8’s passing a suburb park.
My shortline Aughwick Valley GP30
TOM, here are my Tunnel Motors (both of them)
Since this is all I have to run on right now:
I’m working on trains instead of running them, thus my descent into the middle of BLUE BOX CARNAGE!!!
Actually, it’s the beginnings of the 2nd version of my traincam. The existing one is OK, but a bit of a kludge, so I’m starting a new one to make even better.
