Over the weekend, a 20 year old local guy was in a hurry to get to a bar. He crawled beneath a stopped freight train at 3:50 AM. He made it OK, but either didn’t see or hear, or maybe was to drunk to care, the southbound Amtrak on the other track, and it got him. This happened about 6 miles south of me on the CSX A Line. They never learn, do they? I guess tho that he did…
Tom, about 6 or 7 weeks ago I was witness to an incident that happened in my neighborhood, fortunately no one was hurt, but it made my heart skip a few beats, I think.
There is a shortline which runs through my neighborhood, the Ellis & Eastern Railroad, which is owned by Concrete Materials. They haul the raw materials which go into the making of concrete. A northbound train had come through and they had stopped to throw a switch. I was at the other end of the train, waiting for them to clear the crossing so I could continue my journey home.
I turned my attention to the north end of the train and I spotted 2 gentlemen who should have known better, they were dressed in dress shirts and ties, they climbed over the couplers between two of the cars. There is no shortage of idiots who will not think of the dangers or risks in doing things like this.
But…did he make it?
They buried him yesterday.
Yikes, from your original post that is what I assumed but it never hurts to hope for the best. Too bad.
Tom,
I made plenty of mistakes in my youth, and I’m lucky to have survived some of them.
That said, I don’t think today’s youth are any dumber than we were in the fifties and sixties, just a lot more distractions that prevent people from being aware of their surroundings. (Cellphones, Ipods, and the like will keep people unaware of what is going on around them).
In my locale, I’ve seen teens walking the tracks while listening to Itunes or their cell phone and not having a clue what they are about to encounter despite the loudness of horns intended to warn them.
It is indeed sad but true for both the bereaved and the train crew, but the latter are not at fault.
All of him…or just the parts they could find?
