Were can I find replacement Gears for Bachmann J

I have several Bachmann J steamers, made under their “Plus” line. The Spur Gear on the drive axle is split in half on them. I contacted Bachmann and they said parts for those units are no longer available. They said to ship it to them? If parts are no longer avaliable how are they going to fix them? Besides that shipping them the units could get complicated for multiple reasons

Does anyone know where I can find suitable replacement gears? Short of replacing the Chassis with a Bowser Kit…

Any and all Help on this is greatly appreciated!

I’ve heard that Bachman might just replace your locos if they have them and they don’t have parts. I’d ship them.

Send your loco + $15 to Bachmann and they’ll either fix or replace it.

Maybe they won’t fix them, and will send replacement locos to you for free! Don’t Bachmann locos have a lifetime warranty?

P.S. Darn ads after the first post! I keep forgetting to look for more posts, and end up being the THIRD person to give the same answer (how embarassing)! Well, at least we’ve reached a consensus, lol.

There are no replacement gears generally available for the application. You could have someone like NWSL make some for you, but it would cheaper to purchase new Spectrum or BLI J models.

Most like your locomotives were purchased when the lifetime warranty was in effect, and I suggest that you follow the advice given above.

I think for Bachman to replace them for $15 you would have to have sent in your warrenty card. There’s a guy named Tom in the service dept. See if you can talk to him. He really knows their products off the top of his head. He told me he has a bunch of the old units laying around he uses for discontinued parts. He’s sent me some old parts without even knowing the part#'s. Try calling the service line and asking for him.(I think he’s the only Tom there.)

If they are offering you to ship it back, I would just ship it! They don’t even reply my emails about some faulty turnouts.
