Were do these parts go on my PROTO GP60? (PICS)

I got a UP PROTO GP60 to run behind my Turbine. It came with several parts. I have no idea were these go. Now the Sun Shades, Plow are easy. It didn’t come with a detailed view or instructions.

the one on the lower left appears to be the rooftop AC unit. the lower middle ones look like fuel tank filters, the top looks like it goes on the frame(under walkway on fuel tank. the last one I don’t know what that is.

I’ll give this a go. The top one is either an antenna stand with electrical conduit or a horn platform with an air line both of which would mount on the roof. The square piece on the lower right is template (jig)for drilling holes for the wind deflectors next to cab side windows. The parts in the middle, are shock absorbers that attach to trucks and car body and the remaining piece looks like a roof airconditioner.

If need be search MR’s archives for GP-60 info. There was an article on kitbashing one back in the late 80"s with prototype photos. Hope this helps.

Big piece on the left is the air conditioner, it gets mounted on the cab roof obviously. The top piece also gets mounted on the cab roof. There is 3 tiny pins on the piece and it gets mounted with the end with no pin facing the back of the loco. What is it? I don’t know, lol. Look under the shell and you will see the holes you will need to drill out for them. The big piece on the right I couldn’t figure out were it went on my two either, its unpainted so it must go inside somewhere, the opposite side says outside correct? As for the last two I couldn’t figure it out either. The parts diagram doesn’t show either of the two so I’m guessing they were spare parts for another loco maybe??? At least I helped you with the big long thingy, lol. The GP60s have the same problem as the GP38’s concerning the number board lights. You will have to relocated them or remove them if your going to instal a decoder in it. The two I have are in the blue and white EMD Demonstrator colours and both are very nice running and detailed loco’s.

BINGO, I flipped over my part sheet and there it is mounted to the side of the truck. I’m not sure if they are shock absorbers though, the pic shows them mounted sideways, not up and down. Maybe part of the brakes???

I visited Cheyenne in early June of 1970, but the 8500 HP Turbines were all retired in 1969 and I missed seeing the last of the turbines. The UP never purchased any GP60’s new. The GP60’s were SP and D&RGW units that came to the UP when the UP purchased the SP in 1996. All of the GP60’s were purchased in the late 1988 era and later era.

Modelers right to mix era’s , right??? We all do it.

The web site below shows the air conditioner on the cab, but I am not sure if the item in the parts picture is the AC or winterization hatch. The UP uses the AC but not the hatch over the fans.

Should have another template that looks like this. The small template is for mounting the mirror/sun shades by the cab windows.

This locates the holes for the air conditioner and antenna conduit. Use a no. 77 drill with the template, then a 71 or so for the pins.

The other things are shocks for the trucks, engineer’s side only.

They fit into notches in the sideframe. Probably have to pull the sideframe off to get it on. They pull off like Athearn frames.

There are no holes or templates for the plow. Plow is undersized anyway. I just put the factory one on, to clear trip pin height.

Yes it did come with the other big plate. I seem to know were they all go now. Thanks everyone.
