Western where is it 6/9/08

This one looks like Nevada.

The large fill suggests ex WP rather than ex SP. Are those the Pequops?

I like that sky.

The mountain is Pilot Peak (and the southern eminence of the Pilot Range), named by early explorers because it can be seen for a great distance from the east and thus was a navigational beacon as they crossed the Great Salt Lake Desert. The mountain range the train sits on is the Toano; the Pequops are the next range west and would run from your 6 o’clock to your 10 o’clock position in this viewpoint, were you about 2,000 feet straight up.

While the WP is notable for its heavy cut and fill work in Nevada, so is the SP where it was relocated in the first century by Harriman, particularly where it crosses the Pequops between Montello and Wells. The SP took the first choice route, however, and thus required less extensive earthwork than the WP.
