Westwood passenge cars...Anybody got pics?

I see these occasionally on ebay and was just wondering what a completed model looks like.

I don’t have any pics of the cars I’ve built but I can assure you of two things about them. 1) They represent the height of the term “craftsman kit” and 2) they are beautiful when properly assembled.

I’ve only done the kits for the Ma&Pa cars but they also did some PRR and UP cars if I remember correctly. Maybe a B&O set too.

They use a lot of different construction techniques than most wooden passenger car kits. They combine plastic and wood, all of which are high quality parts. The instructions are detailed and they have good drawings too.

I’ve got the Ma&Pa 2 coach kit, not assembled. (and no, it’s not for sale) I agree that this is going to be one fun kit to build and I mean that in terms of difficulty as well as enjoyment.

Enjoy

I have 2 unbuilt CPR 41’ business cars in their Golden Era Series. Limited run of 1912. The box says 41’ but the picture shows a 35’, will have to see what it builds into. Original price of these was $15 CDN.

It certainly looks like good skills are required, these are not shake the box, nor of the style of craftsman kits (laser or plastic) we get today. The instructions are very general for this kit, showing how you build one of their regular passenger cars, along with a supplement for the CP business car specifics. They will make an interesting project one winter.

An interesting story:

My back door neighbor is also a modelrailroader. One night he introduced me to a friend. During our discussion I mentioned that I had several Westwood kits. He offered to buy them - I declined. We met another time - he asked if I would let him build them for me - I again declined, I would like to build them myself. We met a third time - that time he asked me if I would let him build them - he would pay me if I’d let him build them.

The kits are very nice. They are made up of separate window castings that are assembled acording to the plan. Wood siding is added. The roof is made up of structural shapes that form the shape of the roof and “beams” that run the length of the car. The roof surface is then added. “Built like the real cars”

So if they someday disappear who will you tell the police you suspect? [:-^]
