What are Peco Code 100 "Catch Points" ?

In looking into which track I might use, the Peco website lists “Catch Points” , I’ve never heard of them, they look like an incomplete switch, what are they used for, what’s their purpose?

Also known as a split-rail derail, it is used to derail runaway equipment before it makes it to the mainline,thus preventing even more damage.
