Its been awhile since I posted a post like this. I decided to bring it back after a long vacation.
First Official What Are You Doing This Weekend Official 2007
This weekend starting after I get off here I will be starting my Walthers Diesel Shop, probably finishing tomorrow if possible.
Sunday I believe my father and I will be finishing putting up the second level of the layout. Maybe start this on Saturday night after he is done with work.
Its a so called “3 day weekend” for me and probably others in remembrance of Martin Luther King Jr., so I have planned an agenda. Hopefully I might be able to con the parents into a trip to the LHS and buy something that I might/might not need. I am going to finish my new section of road by laying down some plaster cloth first thing tonight, paint it, let it dry, paint it some more, and then thats done for now. Next I am going to be pulling up track and stripping buildings off to start major repairs on the RR, starting with the yard trackbed. Other than that, no true plans after I get that completed, a new list will surely get started.
Project deadline at work, son’s basketball game, have to watch the beloved Colts game, Delfeayo Marsalis concert tickets, church (2 services), Sunday lunch out…
Nope, not much model railroading going on in my household this weekend. I’ll have to grab some weeknights next week.
Me and you both!!! I usually use scupltmold or flexpaste, and i decided to try out plaster cloth b/c I have a huge roll just laying around and the first time I layed some I was pretty happy with the way it could be used, so this is a first for a road for me as well. In the beginning, I just sanded away the old road (sculptmold + sand = temp. road) and made the surface smooth, so I think everything should work out. I hope to have pics posted up by next week.
Train wise, I’m sorta hoping to finish up my initial ball signal prototype. I just need to pick up some more 28 LPI chain.
I may also work on the next iteration of it. This one will also have two balls but they will fit down inside of an open-ended cylinder, with two smaller lights near the top mast so that the signal is viewable at night.
I hope it will work as well, because plaster cloth is very versitile, cheap, and easy-to-use. I will try my best to post pics if all goes well, but it won’t be until tuesday of next week at the bare minimum due to my internet situation. Also tstage I saw the post on your ball signal and found it very interesting and was something refreshingly original. Looks good!
Tonight (Friday) I’ll be dragooned into taking down the artificial Christmas tree and putting it up in the attic. Tomorrow, hopefully I can make up the pit rail for my turntable project, converting an Atlas deck into a pit turntable. Then I can start on the bogie mounts.
I’m also putting together a couple of structures (houses), I’ve got a pair of panel trucks to paint, decal and window, and then maybe I’ll start the sidewalks and streets above the Penny Lane subway station.
Sunday afternoon there’s a Sweet Sixteen party here, so I’ll hide somewhere far, far away and watch the Pats game.
I will be finishing up my Kershaw tie crane in time for some track maintanence. I also will be ripping up my left hand corner of the layout and do a better job of laying the track. And then placing feeder wires around some areas for better electrical pickup. And then possibly be doing a little bit of scenery work.
I have my weekend project lined up. Building a new backdrop. I got new poster paper today for the back plate. The scene is printed but still needs to be cut out, that’s a couple hours work right there. I have to take down the old back plate, as the backdrop on it is fading and is definately looking it’s age. The new back plate will have to be assembled and attached to the wall. This will be done with wood glue, as before, and the back plate will be held in place with thumb tacks until the glue dries. The seams will be covered with masking tape, then the whole thing will be painted Nimble Blue. After the paint is dry, the printed sections will be joined together and attached to the back plate with a thin layer of white glue and allowed to dry. The last touch will be to add some clouds .
Cold and snow here this weekend so I will be finishing the light replacement project. I have been using halogen lights but the transformer to power them interfers with my wife’s radio so I am replacing them all with incandescent GE brand Reveal lights.
I’m about half done now. Should finish the rest tomorrow. Hopefully I will have pics for the photo thread.
Other than that, it’s cleanup time again. I’ve been working on some scenery for the last two weeks and the place is getting a little messy.
I’m not only going to the Golden Empire train show in Bakersfield, CA (more info here: http://www.bakersfield.com/138/story/93738.html ), I’m going to be one of the vendors there, selling off my modern-era HO collection! I converted to N scale recently and nearly all my HO trains and accessories must go!
