What did Santa bring you?

Well, guess Santa found out I was naughty, but my son gave me a Fox Valley box car that he weathered.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night, regards, Peter

Nice looking GN car. That one is on my want list along with the FV brown Soo car!

Mine are coming a bit late for Christmas but thats ok - ordered a Rapido F40PH and hoping they’ll be running the phase II body style in the next year!

I hope everyone had a good Christmas!

However, Santa didn’t bring me anything![:'(] Not even a stocking! My wife didn’t get anything either!

Seriously, we decided on no gifts or stockings this year because she had recently agreed that the layout was a go, and I suggested that we should visit her sister in British Columbia next summer, and maybe take a cruise up the BC coast while we were there.

We are both quite happy with the way Christmas turned out.

Dave

We don’t let Santa in at our house. That said, I ordered a Tangent 6,000 gal. 3-Compartment tank car from M.B. Klein with some Christmas money I received from my dear mother- & father-in-law:

It will be a handsome and unique addition to my tank car roster when I can get a new layout up and going sometime in the future.

Wish Tangent offered these as a decorated kit. I’d be all over that.

Tom

I got two big books on trains;

The age of trains…from the rocket to the bullet; and trains, an illustrated history from steam locomotive s to high speed rail.

One is a book of pull outs to unfold for each train, the other a regular book

Hope all had a good Christmas!

A package from Illinois containing really Interesting Stuff, railroading and non railroading, and a Christmas Day where there was no bloodshed between the gathered extended family!!![:D]

Cheers, the Bear

I got to spend Christmas with my great grandson (5 years old). This was his 1st real Christmas (selfish drug parents!) and he was absolutely thrilled! I gave him a Lionel Little Line train set, an HO Thomas loco, and I custom built him a SP Cab Forward from a wooden steam loco for his wood tracks. I get to spend more time in my train room since he is with us (we now have temp custody). I never thought a 5 year old could learn to run DCC sound equipped articulated locos and manage switching operations! I am blessed this Christmas. BTW I didn’t get anything for my trains this year.

-Bob

A good sized NIB Life Like HO starter set for $19 at a thrift store, and in G scale a good condition LGB Porter 0-4-0 and two AristoCraft 2-4-2 locomotives, albiet in pieces like a large scale jigsaw puzzle.

Bob, good for you. My 4 year old grandson does rather well operating my Aristo Train Engineer throttles - these kids today just seem to take to all this tech stuff.

While all of our adult children are doing well now, some of them did have some challenges in their lives in the past. I will pray that everything works out for your family, especially the little one.

I don’t ask for or desire train stuff as gifts any more. While my wife is supportive of the hobby, she prefers I buy that sort of stuff for myself - gifts should be at least a little bit of a surprise - hard to do for a model railroader and buy the stuff they really want.

We only bought each other a few things - we are blessed to have most everything we need or want - we try to turn our attentions to bringing joy to others this time of year.

Sheldon

Thanks for sharing that story, Bob. Brought a smile to my face.

I was operating American Flyer at 3-years old and was quite careful about handling both the locomotives and rolling stock. I enjoyed the wood train sets, as well, as that allowed me the opportunity to arrange and rearrange the tracks in any which-way I wanted.

I got:

  • Another day in life and a chance for a few more (I am just through a triple by-pass surgery)
  • A 2016 steam loco calendar which came with two miniature enamel billboards showing railroad motifs of the 1930´s
  • A handful of Faller LED lighting fixtures (I can now, for the first time ever, illuminate my buildings)
  • A day out at the Hannover Zoo with the family (when Spring comes)

I am a blessed man.

Those Tangent tank cars are nice - I might get one myself. Doesn’t Intermountain and Proto 2000 make tank cars with almost as good detail in kit form? I think I saw a few at the last Timonium show.

I got my Christmas present early. I had a lumbar spinal fusion earlier this month. Now, I can walk without being all hunched over, the strength is returning to my legs, the numbness is also dissipating…

Rio,

Yes, both Proto 2000 and IM used to make tank car kits but both have gone the RTR route, unfortunately - at least for me. The only way to get those kits now are at train shows and LHSes that still have them sitting on the shelf.

I have 8K & 10K gal. versions from both companies and, as far as detailing, I would give Proto 2000 the slight edge over IM. That said, both make very nice models when assembled.

All the tank cars I have are the single-dome variety so this is my first 3-dome (-compartment) tank car for my roster. How it compares in quality to the Proto 2000 & IM tank cars I’ll find out when I receive it later this week. I think they’ll be comparable to one another on that front.

Tom

Like Dave, same here; no gift for me. Got the wife a few things. I guess I will get myself something from Trainworld.

All the best.

Reinhard

Got two MTH ES4400ac locos and a Tangent Airslide.

I got this…

I got a day with my family. 3 sons, 1 daughter-in-law, 1 grandson, 1 granddaughter.

Best present I could have had. It was fun watching my grandson who is 4 and my granddaughter who is 1 1/2 with presents and toys.

Enjoy

Paul
