I rode a train from Bing. NY Oneanta NY…what did you do?
Worked some OT, came home and slept.
Awesome train day.
Is that anywhere near Oneonta?
I have taken the grandchildren to National Train Day here in Charlotte in the past, but it is really not worth the drive. They usually have a box of doughnuts, a cake, and a bunch of old guys handing out Amtrak schedules.
What they NEED to do is move the Piedmont up to the station track and let people walk through it. Way too many people in and around Charlotte don’t even know that we have train service here. When I tell people that we travel by train the most frequent response is “We have Amtrak here? Where is the train station?”.
Without you and millions of others like you we wouldn’t have any national train days.
I cellibrated with a bottle of wine! rambo1…
First thing I met a railfan from Nova Scotia , gave him a tour and a train ride on light power to meet with a train that was ready for the power. Then I took a trainee engineer on his qualifying trip over a sub-division with a short heavy train on a roller coaster sub. Later I met an inbound train and investigated some intermittent loading issues on a C-39-8, brought the power down to the engine house for service and told the crew what to do to repair said C-39… Life on a shortline is NEVER dull.

Enjoyed my day off doing chores at home
Did fire stuff all day.
Ran my 1000 miles of 1:1 scale railroad.
Visited the National Train Day at the Union Station in Little Rock, AR, with my wife.
Amtrak brought in a P42, a Superliner sleeper and a Superliner lounge. Inside the station, in the waiting room, they had a kids corner full of activities, a model railroad (that’s what the announcement said - it was an oval with an HO scale Amtrak train running) and lots of stuff to pick up promoting trains and Amtrak. A number of very friendly and helpful Amtrak staff on hand, all excited to show off their train.
Having gone through the sleeper and spent time hanging out in the sightseer lounge car, my wife and I are ready to ride the train somewhere soon. From comments I heard from people going through the train, most were pleasantly surprised at how nice sleeper accommodations are. Most visitors seemed to be families with young kids.
We got there shortly after they opened and when we left after having looked at everything at length, there was a long line on the platform of folks eager to see the inside of the train.
Some local media were also there, doing stories on the event.
I hope the interest translates in more riders for the Texas Eagle (and the rest of the system).
Hoping you had more green lines then red, and minimal blue!
Two curfews - 1 Absolute and 1 passing trains on adjacent track. As long as the red lines (and thier ID’s) keep moving, all is good!
I rode in NS passenger car #42, Tennessee, on one of the NS employee excursions; the NKP 765 and the PRR Heritage Unit, doing the honors along the old NYC Water Level Route here in Northern Ohio. Chasing the 765 these past few days made for a great National Train Day Celebration.
I rode the train into New York City today, not to go to the exhibits at Grand Central Terminal but to take my wife to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It is, after all, Mothers’ Day so how could I refuse.
She went to see an exhibit on Impressionist Art as it relates to fashion. I went to see an exhibit of Civil War photography.
Going and coming we rode in some classic train seats, flip seats that have been used in passenger service for a great many years.
rewired my back track and yards…and, so far so good!
I sorted my sock drawer.
I set up a new computer.
No lateral movement required.
With a new computer, I would worry about loosing the token ring for the network. Talk about embitteredment!
You only become embittered if you move back outside.
Or your male pattern balding gives you away at a fashion show in a Department store!
