Chad, as has been demonstrated in another thread, the layout is no place for a cat. I can’t think of a way to kindly-word suggestions for improving train performance when a poster with problems mentions that a cat is involved. [:(!]
While yours may not cause a great deal of “loose hair” disruptions, its diminutive stature would be unlikely to deter a spider, let alone any self-respecting mouse, so I can see little need for it on the layout.

Also, if I may make one other suggestion: once the cat has been dealt with, do yourself (and your back) a big favour, and raise that layout up to your waist-level, or, even better, eye-level. Keeping it low enough to allow the cat to jump on it will no longer be necessary. [swg]

I took quite a bit of rolling stock off my layout a few days ago, but still in place on the mainline, at various locations, are:

a pair of helper locos
a doodlebug and trailer
a doubleheaded train with 17 cars
a doubleheaded train with 8 cars
a passenger train with 1 loco and 3 cars

There’s also a switcher working an industrial district with 4 cars in tow and another 18 spotted at various locales in the same town, and another 16 cars at various other sidings elsewhere.

In staging, there’s a doubleheaded coal train of 13 cars, a mixed freight of 10, and another of 7, plus 6 loose cars.

At the shop complex in Lowbanks, another 6 cars and three locomotives.

I usually place newly-completed locos and rolling stock on the layout, but the rolling stock eventually cycles off the layout, to be replaced with either new stuff or cars from storage. Locos remain on the layout unless they need repairs or maintenance.
Most stuff built or repaired for others gets some layout time, either for test running or simply to be enjoyed and/or photographed.

Williston Yard…3 RS3’s and 2 RS11’s plus several flatcars waiting for loads at this point.

Sim’s Jtn…2 H16-44’s with about 20 covered hoppers at Galliger’s Mill

1 very long train consisting of 3 RS2’s and about 40 covered hoppers with a few boxcars in it as well…travelling towards Exceda Yard…

Exceda Yard…2 RDC’s getting ready to carry passengers back to Williston…

" …3 RS2’s being readied for trip to Thompson Mills plants #3-4

Lots of trains, pulled by multiple HO and HOn3 locos…

Representative examples below[{]

On the layout, right now, - nothing. Sad isn’t it.

Brings a tear to me eye that does.[:'(]

As of right now:

3 0-6-0

2 4-4-0

2 4-6-0

4 2-8-0

2 Flat cars

35 Gondolas

3 Drop Bottom Gons

8 Hopper bottom gons

5 Twin hoppers

3 Cabooses

13 Reefers

3 Stock cars

3 tank cars

5 Ventilated boxcars

45 Boxcars

2 Coaches

In the paint shop

5 cabooses

2 Coaches

2 Baggage cars

1 RPO

All in 1900-1905 era.

Not very much:

  • Short coal unit (three articulated hoppers, two hopper-brakes and TTT 0-8-0T #42.
  • 2-unit DMU (KiHa 17 class commuter-service control coaches.)
  • Work train (ED1722, Bo+Bo catenary motor, three gondola loads of track nails and rail joiners, gondola-brake)

Also present, a lot of junk that should be moved - probably into the recycle can or the dustbin.

Not listed - half a dozen operable consists in cassettes, and the cars on the separate module.

Now that the temperature in the train room has dropped from the unbearable to the uncomfortable, I’m looking forward to getting back to work!

Chuck (Modeling Central Japan in September, 1964 - temperature permitting)

I have, according a vast amount of MR’s on my layout, a cat.

No working steam, Jeff? [:|]

I have a new BlueLine DCC/sounded A Class, a new Spectrum C&O heavy 4-8-2, both with QSI Titans (very nice!!!), an older BLI Niagara, and an Atlas Gold Master H24-66. Heck, I guess they’re all QSI’s! Attached to the Niagara are two BLI reefers and five Walther’s 20th Century heavyweights of various descriptions. That’s it. I am still testing track, and keeping them there for some relief when I get tired of pondering my next moves, now a 20 week process.

Crandell

Crandell, I’ve been “pondering” for so long that lack of progress on my stagnant layout should merit a name change to “the Ponderosa”. (With apologies to Lorne and the boys.) [sigh][swg]

Working on building subnstructure consisting of cabinetwoek and support system that will benefit both mywelf and the railroad. I am taking my time because I want it to be good.

RIch

Nope. I used to use a 2-10-2 for the tourist train. Even though it could negotiate 18" curves it was too big for the layout. Same for the 4-8-4 Northern. I traded the 2-10-2 to Ken and sold the 4-8-4 to a member on my forum. I now use an Atlas H24-66 Trainmaster to pull the tourist train and it’s borderline.

“All” my rolling stock (other than many car kits yet to be assembled):

  • Locos: a Mountain, a Mikado, a GP9 and a NW2 switcher

  • Cars: all 5 freight cars plus 2 caboosii

  • Most important: Finished (except decals and weathering for some) the engine facilities, that in some cases affected track finalization. All Walthers kits…2 stall engine house, Crane Shovel & Machine shop (using for a small diesel house), wood coaling tower, cinder conveyor, sand house and towers and wood water tank. It’s a milestone to have these done so I can glue down the track around some of these facilities (e.g., cinder conveyor calls for creating an opening under the track for its pit.

Next will come 2 bridge kits to put together (in tandem) plus lots of freight car kits to put together.

I honestly have know idea. If I had to guess I would say around 200 pieces of rolling stock, 50 ish locos, 4 or 5 passenger trains and a bunch of unbuilt building kits. [B]

Chad, that photo and that video are awesome. Superb line up.

Mike, love your layout and those three photos are tremendous. Very well done.
