What do you listen to while working on your layout?

Well, I had some time today to work on flats out in the garage and I kicked the 'ol stereo on and fired up some Royal Crown Review and Billie Holiday.

I got to thinking, what does everyone else listen to (if anything) while they’re working on their empires?

…dont forget the Big Bad Voodoo Daddy[;)]

Phish, Grateful Dead, Sublime, Led Zepplin. I love lead guitar!!

I fire up the track and listen to steam locomotives do their random pump, injector, and pop-off sounds and enjoy turbine whine. It’s like I’m right there…workin’ in the yard.

I got sick and tired with wasting 3 hours a night sofa sitting in front of the boob tube. I have purchased a nice HDTV with a wall bracket that will be mounted over my hobby work bench so I can model railroad every night and get some work done.

Amen to that! I pop in a DVD of the latest Model railroad release liked the DCC from start to finish… just got my new one last night…

I used to listen to tunes, but with this wall mounted flip screen I can see Redford TV’s Trains and locomotives on ‘Air’ and work on the railroad at the same time!

My conscience!

Rod Stewart, lately, for some reason…

[:-^]

My favorite listening is Blue grass Doc Watson etc…

Makes me creative, me thinks.

Somehow it reminds me of trains.

Johnboy out.

Actually, I have two 400 disc CD players lashed togther and can play my entire rock/pop music collection on shuffle. I think it takes a few weeks to get through the whole catalogue.

I can also select genres, so sometimes it’s The Clash, Pistols, Gen X, Gang of Four, Pretenders et al.

Sometimes it’s the Stones, Cream, Tom Petty. Other times AC/DC, Aerosmith, Zeppelin.

There’s a third CD player devoted to jazz and classical so sometimes it’s Chet Baker, Stan Getz, John Coltrane and Miles Davis.

On Saturday afternoon, though, it’s The Discovery Channel and Mythbusters all day. Haven’t seen every episode, but I’ve heard 'em all!

I’m with selector, but sometimes I run diesels, too. Unless I’m blocking the track or working very close to it, I actually have them running in a loop. Having to take a break when a train comes by is kind of realistic, too, right?

When I hear rap coming from a teenage noise box, though, that’s when I power up the Hudson.

Actually nothing except the phone ringing if my wife is out.

Well on the major layout aka the yr round I usually listen to something fast paced like Sepultura, Suicidal Temdencies, or elvis or something that gets the juices pumpin (no rap or R&B for me) For the christmas layout (I’m rebuilding it today) I’ve been listening to Christmas music on the radio yup thats right out here in Milwaukee Wi theres 24/7 Christmas music on the radio and ZI’m enjoying it even tho I dont hear it all with the swearing and hollaring.

Yeah…forgot Big Bad Voodoo Daddy too…

I don’t always listen to R & B or Jazz…Pink Floyd or Zep are rock favorites of mine when I’m toolin’ out in the garage as well…interesting answers from all…

Usually I’ll listen to the history channel in the background… The other day, my wife decided to get caught up on her Tivo’d soaps. I had to listen to ‘The Young and the Restless’. I was contemplating shoving a screw driver in my ear to stop the pain!

Either that or old classic rock. Genesis, Rush, Gabriel, Floyd, Zep, Don’t care much for any of the new music.

Sometimes the washing machine, and sometimes the furnace. Sometimes both. I should really bring my MP3 player down there more often…

The street noise, as I live right in the heart of San Francisco. Those car alarms that go off at the drop of a pin are extremely irritating.

It depends on my mood.Alternative and Rock are always good choices, however I am more partial to RnB and rap. Throw some smooth jazz in there as well. Anything but country.

I usually have my scanner on and listen to the real railroad radio chatter at Buckeye Yard and around the Columbus, Ohio area.
