What do you think of these Railroad Colors

Hey guys what do you think of these colors for my fictious railroad. It is going to be a "western mining and bridge traffic"routes. Probably be mostly coal and Soda ash and maybe a cement factory or Gypsum factory type thing. I think the railroad name is going to be United Fuel and Iron Railway. But it may change. The Story is the mine built the track to interchange cars then added service to other areas as other industries moved in to take advantage of the minerals in the area. They connect to two different railroads for better rates.

The body is Teal. I did the top in Mo Pac Blue and wasnt to crazy about it but it grows on me. The bottom is Amtrak blue and like it better. It will be the same blue on the entire loco. The color on my craptasic digital camera isnt the best but you get the idea. The lettering will be in plain ole White. Will have white safety stripes on the nose also but I forgot to get white paint. The paint is rough as this is just to experiment with different colors.

Think this is a believeable color scheme?

I really like those colors personally. I was thinking of something similar for my (still-in-the-armchair-phase) freelance that I want to set in the pacific northwest.

Well, plausible, but perhaps a better (in my opinion) way to go is a wide Teal stripe (keeping the same color scheme of teal and Amtrak blue) across the long body, and a completely teal short hood (except perhaps for a black antiglare panel across the top of the hood). Black lettering across the Teal Stripe, with light/white lettering on the cab…maybe…
And go with black fuel tanks and other underbody detail.

I like the colours it’s a bit reminicent of the old blue and grey RF&P scheme so I’d say it’s very railroady. What about yellow chevrons on the nose’n’tail as extra grade crossing protection? TB

What they said. Definitely find a similar prototype scheme and change the colors to your colors. I’ve seen several examples of this in MR, where the layout owner took a stock EMD pattern and applied it with his own choice of colors to make some very nice F units. The same concept can be easily applied to a modern hood unit.

Thanks for the input guys.

I will add chevrons on the front and back in white probably. Going to make the short hood completely teal. I have decided to go with the lighter Amtrak blue instead of the Mopac blue that is on top. All the blue on the model will be Amtrak blue. Paint layout is probably going to stay pretty much the same. I dont want something that will take hours to tape off one model. Sometimes the simpliest paint layout is the most beleiveable.

I am still working on the Logo but it is coming along pretty slow.

Thanks for the help.

it is very similar to the way United States Steel is currently painting their engines so it should be fine for a mineral hauler and has a real life precedent.

Looks good to me. I’ve been trying to think of a paint scheme for my railroad I want to make. So far, it’s a variation of dark blue and orange. I need to find a good quality airbrush, and some spare body shells to experiment with. Can’t wait to see it when it is done.
