I would like to hear your thoughts and opinions about what will happen to the former “Mopac” SD40-2 that is now a parts source on the Trona Railway. Here’s the poll on what I think could happen to it.
- A. Scrapped
- B. Go to a museum
- C. Get rebuilt and returned to service
- D. Go to a dealer (e.g: Western Rail, Inc.) and get rebuilt

I’d say it would be scrapped because it is being used as a parts source, which increases the chance of it being scrapped.
Short summary: Parts source = scrapped.

Yep, if they were gonna save it they wouldn’t be gutting it for parts. It’s like with restoring cars. You’re not making a showpiece out of the parts car. And before somebody pipes in with "But I…"or a “I know this guy…” or about some club in SouthGodKnowsWhere those examples are the exception not the 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999999% of the time.
