What do you use for eavestrough?

I need about 80" or so of HO scale gutters. I have seen the Micro Engineering and Pikestuff products but they are too costly to do the length that I need. I also looked at Evergreen shapes but their channels are too shallow to look right. Plastruct 3/32" deep channel would seem to be close to the right size. Has anybody used it?

Is there anything else out there? How do you model your eaves?

3/32 in full size would be over eight inches ??

wouldn’t 1/16 or similar be better ??

Here are some in kit form, including the downspouts.

1/16" Brass “C” Channel should be good.

Honestly, I just use 0.060" by 0.060" Evergreen square strip. It would take a very sharp eye to see they are solid and not open on the top.

Old buildings would have half round gutters and round downspouts.

5" and 6" are typical gutter sizes with corresponding 3" and 4" downspouts.

Plastruct has .060" half round rod - about 5" in HO

Square, or “K” gutters are post mid 20th century.

Hi Sheldon,

Thanks for the history lesson. I just ordered some Plastruct 3/32" square channel to use for the eaves. I’ll see if I can file or sand one corner down so it looks more round.

Sheldon’s reply is right on. My house was built right after the depression, and the original gutters and spouts were just as Sheldon describes.

The new Leaf Gaurd gutters and spouts looked HUGE after the boys were done with the install.

I have a broken umbrella that I can raid for HO gutter material. Very small steel channels. Not easy to cut. Cut too long and file to needed dimensions.
