If you’re deaf, it depends on whether or not you ever had hearing.
You can check out the various sounds listed in the various documents on their website
just need to know, my wife is hearing and dont want to drive her nuts over it…
I am not only deaf with the colear implant on me…
You can adjust the volume on the sounds of a tsunami sound decoder. So if it bothers your wife, you can just turn the master volume down to an acceptable level.
My girlfriends a five year grandson has the implants and hears just fine.
Below is a link to the SoundTraxx site with many sound samples you can download and review at your leisure.

Don’t know what the prime mover is in this loco though.

Is there a reason why you have to have sound? If you cant hear them then why bother?
If you are doing it for others to hear then as others noted you can adjust the volumes.
As an experiment, you can buy a Radio Shack sound level meter and set the sound levels looking at the meter movement. Someone can tell you a certain meter level is fine, too loud, etc. I have considered doing this but have not had the time.
Of course, how far away from the loco is something to think about. Three or four different sounds can be a lot. When our club runs six sound locos, it gets quite confusing.

I don’t know if this is what you want to know or not, but the Tsunami decoders produce the following types of sounds: (as do most sound decoders, except for the automatic sounds)
Engine sounds. Low RPMs when it is moving slowly and then the sound volume and RPMs increase as the speed increases.
Bell. The bell will ring. You can adjust how fast or slow the ringing is.
Horn. You can blow the horn, and can select different types of horns.
There are also other sounds, like air sounds, brake squeal, and coupler sounds, plus others. Each individual sound can be adjusted for how loud it is, and there is one CV that will change the master volume of all the sounds. The bell and horn sounds can be automatic and come on when the loco starts to move. (Like the bell ringing and the horn giving two long blasts for going forward) There is also and automatic grade crossing horn sound that is activated by a change of speed.
The fidelity and loudness of the sounds depends on how good the speaker is. The bigger the better.
I hope this helps.
hey this helps…
I just got an SD70ACe BNSF… IT’S with out the sounds… just tested run it pretty good…
Athearn I assume? If it is, below is a link to a Athearn SD70MAC which “might” be similar.

If you only have DC the only sound you will hear is the sound of the engine running. You will have to purchase a control to use the other sounds.
