What exactly are LIFT RINGS ???

I have seen them on engines and also as detail parts for diesel engines. Exactly what are these? Are they hooks to left the engine up?

Actually, they are used to lift either the entire hood assemby or certain top-mounted components like cooling fans. They are far too flimsy to take the entire weight of a complete locomotive.

When the entire engine has to be lifted, it is supported from the frame.
