What if....

Amtrak did heritage paint schemes?

Would UP’s new (and sensible) model color scheme position hold for 12" to the foot???

good idea

I’m waiting for a Southern Pacific modeller to do the same thing with the Daylight scheme.

Tom, that looks really nice. I enjoy the fantasy engines some of you fellows come up with. Thanks for the photo.

Tom

[#ditto] looks really great.

I’ve painted and lettered many locomotives for my fictional HO railroad, but this is the first time I’ve done a “what if” type paint scheme, and it was sort of on a whim. Through some Ebay transactions, I ended up with an extra Athearn undecorated P42 body. I was repainting my Mantua Baldwin Sharks in the Pennsy scheme, and I always mix up more paint than I need. Then the Microscale decal set had extra gold “whisker stripes” and Pennsy keystones. I just removed one of the Amtrak bodies and installed this one for the picture, which is why the pilot is still silver.

Nice job! I wonder how the locomotive would look with the pilot painted tuscan with the trucks, air reservoirs and such kept silver.

Would you like to share any other pictures?

The concept raises some real possibilities, but it would be so much more effective on the entire train. Imagine a whole train in purple, or Daylight, or even tuscan. Too cool.

Quite possible, but thinking along the lines of what has happened recently: The Pennsylvania DOT (PennDOT) had entered into a joint project with Amtrak to upgrade the Keystone Corridor (Philly to Harrisburg) for up to 110 MPH running. Take the scenerio a step farther, that PennDOT also purchased a locomotive for that service:

I beleive the PRR’s last passenger cars were stainless steel with just the Pennsy lettering on the letterboard, or at the most, a Tuscan stripe on the letterboard with the “Pennsylvania” name on it.

Yes, I do, but since they are models, I felt it more appropriate to post them under the Model Railroader heading:

OK

[bow] I love the idea, but I’m not holding my breath waiting for this to happen…I don’t look good in blue.

Just imagine the possibilities! We alrerady have a small taste with the ConnDOT [or Metro North’s] P-42s done in the old New Haven paint scheme. Imagine them in a Warbonnet scheme of BNSF [nee-Santa Fe], or the Northern Pacific’s paint, or UP’s armour yellow, or the IC’s Brown and orange, [tup] [yeah] [tup][tup]

Anyway, That Pennsy job is really fine! Congratulations![8D]
