The ability to run more than one train on the same track at the same time in different diretions. With DC the track tells the train where to go, in DCC the train goes where you say it goes just like a real train works.

matica242,

George has given you a very good and simple explanation of DCC. if you want ot learn more, go to the following web site:

http://www.tonystrains.com

and click on the link in the middle of the page entitled 2. DCC For Beginners. It will give you a very good explanation of what DCC is and what it can do. You can either read it online or download it in .pdf format and print it out from your computer. It should answer many of your questions, and some that you haven’t even thought of yet.

Hope that’s a help…

Tom

It stands for “Digital Command Control”. As stated previously Command Control systems allow many trains to be controlled independently on a single track. DCC is different from most previous systems (CTC-16, On-Board, Rail Lynx, Railcommand, etc.) because it uses a totally digital signal to the track. If the locomotive is getting power, it is getting the signal. The DCC style signal (originally developed by Lenz) was addopted by the NMRA as the standard command control system about 10 years ago.
