What is this load?

This train was sitting in south lincoln nebraska on the main for over 5 hours. I saw it stop at noon and start back up about 5pm. Sorry about the blurry ness I was going about 35 on the second picture in my car and the first one I was trying to get a picture at a stop sign with a lot of car behind me. If you cant tell me what it is I wont be dissapointed I was just intereseted in what the load was on this train.

Kyle

It appears to be Boeing airplane parts cars .

Its one of those FEMA trains [}:)]

I think airplane parts could be right.

I may be wrong, but looks like you are out around 14th & Old Cheney or Pine Lake Rd and since you say you are south - that would be the airplane train in from Wichita. It will come in on the south tracks and go through the yard and out west to…well, wherever they go out west.

It’s certainly nothing I’ve ever seen, but definitely different.

P S…moelarrycurly, like your screen name, but I am actually more of a Shemp fan[(-D].

Our freight through Lincoln always has the most interesting engines. Not usually the newer ones (ugh orange ones) Thank Goodness.

Thanks for the input.

But arent those the lead locomotives? So they are going south no coming from the south.

We do get some interesting frieght that come through lincoln and not the newest loco’s but they are the coolest ones. Great for modeling tho.

Mookie yes I was on 14th and yankee hill.

Kyle - had the Driver look at your photos - his eyesight is much better than mine: He sez the first cars look like airplane parts but possibly empty and the 2nd photo looks like maybe covered hoppers - so going south instead of north - it is a mixed consist heading to wherever they go when they go south - maybe Saint Joe.

Guess that is about the best I can do for you at this time.

Those cars carry parts of large aircraft wings.

Those look like the cars used to transport Boeing 737 wings from the Wichita plant to the assembly line up in Seattle. I think the 737 fuselages actually are transported “in the open” on some special type of flat. Jamie

The first picture is the Wichita Boeing cars. But I have only seen them coming from KS not going there. 2nd pix really looks like hopper cars, which tells me that it is mixed consist going south and the Boeing cars are probably empties.

They are all boeing cars, and they may be going back to boeing wihcita in a special move. I think they usually are transported in regular manifest trains empty, but someties they run short of certain cars and run special routing for empties to head back wichita in a timely fashion.

The cars on the rear are also assembly cars for boeing, I don’t remember what they carry, but I know some of them are for struts for different planes, and other parts.

There were some of those flat cars that you are talking about but they were farther down the line on the train. The last half of the train was just mix frieght.

The second picture is 2 cars behind the 2nd loco’s. Sorry for the bad picture.

the head 7 cars in the picture are all boeing cars, the 7th car is the idler for the fuselage flat car. boeing cars are always the first cars in a manifest train per rule, so this is just movement of the cars empty from the northwest back to wichita.

Loaded boeings have their own special train from wichita to kansas city, where they are generally put onto a z-train for movement on up to washington. Boeings do get other routings from time to time but it is rare as the route has to be free of obstructions, mainly tree branches and the such.
