Steam. Anything steam. And sometimes slow is just as good as a fast roll by. The movements of all the valve gear and such is a magic experience. Even oddballs like Shays, Heislers, Climaxes and such are boatloads of fun to watch (and listen to as well!).
I must be so far out in the sticks! It’s rare when we see a GE of any kind, or even a wide cab of any kind. Everything around here is mostly old Geeps. An occasional grain train rolling through will have something newer.
I really like Norfolk Southern high nose sd40-2’s I saw a coal train come through town a few nights ago with 5 of them on it.I live along the NS Sandusky district mainline between Columbus and Bellvue Ohio.

I’m going to have to say that I absolutly love the SD80MAC. I would really and I mean really want to see that engine pulling a loaded coal train or a manifest.
On another matter I also right now would give anything to see the oh so wonderful C&O Allegheny 2-6-6-6 run with a slow speed, heavy haul freight. Unfortunitly, I was born too late (1986) and was unable to witness steam era, so honestly if I could I would control time so that way I can go back into the day.
