What is your favorite train movie?

Like any good railfan. my DVD colection contains a nice collection of train movies Here are my top 3 favorites:

  1. Sliver Streek

  2. Von Ryan’s Express

  3. Runaway train (despite the fact it’s totaly not pluasable)

I’ve also seen some real turkies, including Atomic Train.

Mine is Tough Guys with Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas and SP 4449 (with Doyle himself at the throttle)

Check out The Greatest Show on Earth (the train wreck scene)

Emperor of the North

Buster Keaton – “The General”

dd

I have to check those out, are any of them on NetFlix?

The General
The Train
Our Hospitality (another Keaton film with the funniest train segment I’ve ever seen)

worst- 2nd vote for Atomic Train-woof!

Has to be Emperor of the North ! AND ITS COMING OUT IN DVD SOON!!!

[^] THE TRAIN, EMPEROR OF THE NORTH & TOUGH GUYS

Which movie had Frank Sinatra yelling at a young fellow from the back of a passenger train[?] Anyone remember[?]

There are a lot of movies that had a little or a lot of train footage. Hard to pick one. I like Emperor of the North and Tough Guys.

I’m partial for NHRR movies though - I love seeing my favorite road in action, sound and all.

Man in the Gray Flannel Suit
It Happened to Jane

Check this out - the NHRHTA put together a list of movies with a NHRR cameo or STARRING ROLE!

Click on the movie and most will give you a description, including the NHRR appearance.

Cool huh?

Double Indemnity has a cool train scene…and Barbara Stanwyck (…mmmmm, Barbara Stanwyck)

“Von Ryan’s Express”, “The Great Locomotive Chase”, and the first few minutes of “I’d Climb the Highest Mountian” ( It has an actual TF passenger train pulling into the station)

William Shat-ner. Disaster on the Coastliner. No exceptions.

Don’t forget Burt Lancaster in “The Train.”

La Bete Humaine. French flic from late 1930s by Jean Renoir, with lots of action shots of 4-6-2s. The RR scenes have real credibility. Lead character is an engine driver who goes around the bend after murdering his girlfriend.

I’m with you all the way.

[:D]

The Polar Express. Features the first steamer I ever chased, Pere Marquette #1225!

1 - Danger Lights
2 - Emperor of the North

Or maybe it’s the other way around . . .
