N&W’s J class black with tuscan red stripes.
Yep, Southern Pacific Daylight, then not to far behind is Espee’s Black Widow livery which is neck and neck with the scarlet and gray. But, after those liveries, would be any clean foreign unit in consist with whatever home road power I’m shooting. Its always fun to get a surprise like MRL in a UP consist, or CSX in a BNSF consist and so-on.

I thought the question at hand is “What railroad HAS the best paint scheme”…which means (to me anyway) a current railroad.
For me personally, I will vote for BNSF H3 (have yet to see a H4 so will hold off voting for that one), U.P. and WSOR (always clean and really nice).
Of the current RR’s - so few to choose from (shortlines and leasers notwithstanding). NS black is OK. UP has become timeless - fairly consistent for a long time. BNSF provides lots of variety but little consistency. KCS gray is bland. CSX isn’t bad, both “bright” and “dark” future versions.
As for old schemes - MP/Wabash blue and white (as applied to F/PAs and maybe EMD covered wagons) and PM/C&O blue and yellow.
Y’all missed it, they want the BEST PAINT SCHEME. Well everyone knows thats the “SOTHERN RAILWAY” in BLACK, Green second.

Also the W&I red and silver
CN mainly black then white then red scheme from rear to front
NJT silver w/ black nose and orange & purple stipes down the side
Mabee not the greatest, but the Southern Pacific bloody nose scheme will always be my favorite!!![8D][tup]
Of the current Railroads: BNSF H2 and H3
Previous Railroads: Santa Fe Warbonnets
