What scale do you model?

I model in Normal scale. [swg]

Not enough room for a decent layout in HO. I’ve got a lot invested too, but it’s in opti-visors, magnifying glasses, swing arm magnifying lamps, reading glasses, etc.

S scale. It’s big like O for building and small like HO for layout. It combines the best of both.[:D] It is for me the happy middle.

HO

Did some HO and N as a kid (never got much past a plywood prarie).

I spent a couple years before and after college “armchairing”. During those times, I saw very few layouts in person.

I started to forget the size differences between HO and N over the years.

Then I waw two really nice HO and N layouts about a year and a half ago - when I picked up my first MR mag in years. I was blown away at how different the sizes are.

I loved the N scale layout, but wow, that equipment is tiny!

Whenever I see tracks from far away in real life, I think, “N scale is by far the most realistic scale…”

Then when I see a train go right in front of my car at a grade crossing I think, “O scale is the only way to go…”

So, I compromise with HO!

I currently model in Z, HO (Marklin only), On30, and #1 gauge. I used to be fairly active in N scale, which I still like, and was an NTrak member some years ago. I still have a roster of about 20 Conrail locomotives in N, but just don’t have space for doing yet another scale. I’ll likely dispose of that collection at some point, and will probably buy some more Z and On30 with the earnings.

I’ve never met a scale I didn’t like, which makes things both easier and more difficult. Most important, though, is that I’ve been fortunate enough to see, in person, some truly superb modeling in ALL scales at one time or another.

US HO scale layout and a Japanese N scale layout!

HO scale. Bout as small as I can get with my current set of eyeballs. I especially like the sound capabilty of the HO size.

"N"atural & "N"ormal Scaler

Well, from the age of 5 to about 14 and a half, I was interested in HO. But, the lack of space has brought the conversion to N scale. That, and drooling over the BANTrak (Baltimore Area NTrak) layouts set up at the local shopping mall. N scale is an awesome size to model as you can run prototypical length trains in a small to modest space.

Well i have Ho, lionel, N, and G equipment but my new layout is gonna be N scale. In a few weeks i hope to get started!

HO (1:87) and O scale. Still run the lionel now and then, but HO is my favorite.

HO Scale all the way!!!

“N” is the way for me. I have a modest space and N gives me a good scenery to tracks ratio.

HO

HO. If I had it to do over I probably would look seriously into O. Cost would be the deciding factor.

I model in N scale and postwar Lionel O gauge. I like the toy aspect of Lionel but I also like running big engine lash ups with long trains so I chose N scale too. I go on binges with both and after a binge with my N scale, O gauge looks like monster scale. My wife wishes I would get rid of the Lionel because it makes too much noise and N scale is nice and quiet.
