What switch engine goes with Shinoara Code 83 Nickel-Silver DCC-Friendly #7-1/2 Right-Hand Curved? I want a manual switch but I have no idea witch one will fit? And none of the stores have that info either.

Lillen,
I’m assuming you mean “motor” for operating a Shinohara turnout vs. a switcher locomotive that will navigate through the turnout. A Circuitron Tortoise switch ought to work with that turnout:
Empire Northern has them at a good price.
FYI: In MRRing, track “switches” are referred to as “turnouts” so that they are not confused with electrical “switches” for operating things on the layout - e.g. like a turnout.
Tom
Yes you are right. Motor is ofcourse correct. I would rather have a manual one. Du you have any tips on that?
Thanks, Lillen
Lillen,
For manual “ground throws”, Caboose Industries make good and reliable ones, not too expensive, and are fairly straightforward to install. (The directions come with it.) Caboose Industries can recommend which one of their ground throws is right for that particular turnout.
Tom
Would those work with the Atlas #8 turnouts aswell? Are they easy to install? There are several options, witch should I get?
Lillen
They should. As far as installation, they were easy for me. As I stated, the instructions come with them and are straightforward. I would e-mail CI and ask what they would recommmend. Tell them exatly what turnout you want to add the manual ground throw to.
Tom
Your talking about putting down a lot of turnouts. Are your sure you want them to be manual? Are you going to be able to reach all of them OK? If so, the Caboose Industry ones are your best bet. For a little more than those, you can buy Atlas or Peco electric under table machines.
I use the caboose 202s and 204s ground throws with the code 83 shinohara
Most of my installations are with the 202s ground throw but in places where i want the hi level with a target i use the 204s.
my biggest problem is where my clumsy elbows make contact with the swich machine while reaching in for something else.
I only use electric switch machines where the reach is over 18 inches
Well I wan’t manual now since I’m really bad when it somes to wiring. But I guess the most important reason is that I’m so use to the swedish prices on electric turnout motors that I assumed that they would be very expensive(25$). It seems like Atlas motors are not that expensive afterall.
Thanks for all your help, all of you.

llilen:
May I recommend the Caboose Industries 220 (Walthers # 97-120 or 97-220 for that turnout . The 220 has electrical contacts should you not be using the Tortoise.
The contacts can give you visual indication or powering the frog (both good).
Even though you want manual/ ground throws on these turnouts now, you may want to convert them to an undertable machine as shown like the Tortoise.
If you haven’t laid track yet, I would stongly suggest that you drill the hole through the roadbed under the throw bar. To do this at a later date once track is laid will certainly ruin the turnout.
You stand the chance of damaging scenery when reaching all those ground throws, besides when running, you’re always going to have to be ahead of your train. Operation is much more pleasurable when the control is @ the facia or can be thrown by wireless from the throttle.
Just some food for thought.
