I have an O Guage layout that I have been building for about a year now. I am presently working on my train yard portion. I want to scratch build a train yard control tower. Can anyone recommend what to use for steel girders or where I can buy some?
Evergreen at http://www.evergreenscalemodels.com/ will have what you want. They have girders in a number of different sizes.
I’ve used a bunch of them:
Plastruct does some large, mostly plain I,H and channel sections and also one size of zig-zag lattice about 20mm deep. (Maybe 2 sizes)?
ME or CVM do a variety of bridges and bridge girders that would be useful for small sections in 0 — 'cos the bits are designed for H0. They can look good in 0 though. They can make terrific scrap loads.
Similarly you could dismember an Atlas N bridge for really small stuff.

Along with the excellent suggestions above, you may want to check Plastruct out…
Central valley also makes some of the steel beams with zig-zag lattice… of various sizes; I use them for kitbashing and they work well.

Both Evergreen and Plastruct make a number of steel beams in different sections. The Evergreen shapes are finer in section, so they look better. They are made of styrene plastic so they are not as strong. Plastruct beams are heavier in section an made of ABS plastic, they are stronger.
If you do not need the structural strength, I would choose Evergreen; however, if it is a large structure I probably would go with Plastruct so it would not sag over time. Maybe Plastruct where it was not too visible, and Evergreen for the up front fine detail.
