In researching SCL paint schemes, I find many references to the “split-image” scheme, but so far in black-white photos. Would appreciate any info on those paint scheme colors.
Also, what would be probable SCL passenger loco paint scheme(s) in @1968, @one year after Atlantic Coast Line/ Seaboard Air Line merger?
Any recommendations for DCC/sound HO SCL passenger locos, e.g., E7, E8, E9?
Thanks,
The Seaboard Air Line had 2 paint schemes in use at the time of the merger. The freight scheme was a green carbody with a yellow stripe. This green was a sort of pullman green, it was the same color as Great Northern Empire Builder green.
The second scheme had the yellow stripe painted over an apple green carbody.
After the merger the SAL roadname was removed and the SCL name placed on the units. That was the ‘split-image’ scheme, used until the units were repainted or scrapped.
After the merger the SCL used a paint scheme based on the ACL’s black scheme. It was black with yellow frame and pin stripes and silver lettering.
The ACL/SAL Historical Society is a great source of information.
Thanks for the replies and explanation of “split-image” (SAL livery with SCL lettering). I’ve found two likely DCC/sound HO models for SCL passenger power in 1968: Atlas SDP-35 and Intermountain FP7, both in SCL livery of black with gold striping.
