What was the 1956 Lackawanna 2321 set consist? HELP PLEASE!

Hey there,
I don’t have a copy of a 1956 catalog or a book that lists the consist of the 1956 Lionel Lackawanna freight set. I was wondering if anybody could help me out!
Thanks everyone!!!

FEClionel, The [}:)] Doctor is in !!! I checked my Greenberg book on post war sets. The
set you are refering to was made in 1955. It was listed as #2234W or A-24. I t was O
gauge and was listed at $59.95 retail. Contents as follows: 2321 gray Lackawanna F-M; 3662 oper.milk car; 6511 brown pipe car; 6462-125 red gondola with barrels;6464-300 Rutland boxcar; 6417 Pennsylvania port-hole cabboose; eight curved and five
straight track; and a UCS Uncoupling /operation section. A note says this was the third,
last and most scarce of the Lackawanna sets and only one of two sets to contain the
Rutland boxcar. Price listed in 1994 ed. was $1500 VG and $2500 LN. Hope this helps you.

Doctor,

My TM Books source indicates the same details for the set rolling stock, but indicates the set was #2243W, “The High and the Mighty”. Typo?

Chris, The [}:)] Doctor is in !!! With out a catalog from 1955 to go by, I can’t say if the TM
books listing is a typo or not. I myself have TM books & Greenburg books, But I have
more faith in the Greenburg books because they are updated and seem to have more
experts. But this my humble opinion only. Perhaps someone who has the catalog can
clear the question up.

I had alway assumed that the numbers for sets and for individual models were disjoint. If that is true, the set number would not be 2243, since that is the number of the 1955 Santa Fe F3.

I am looking, at this moment, at an original 1955 Lionel catalog and
on pages 26-27 the set you are asking about is displayed along with
an assortment of cars. There is no set number or set price listed in the
catalog, but it does list the diesels as “each $39.95”

There is also a paragraph below the engine write up/description that
says " Lionel ‘O’ Sets with Locomotive, Cars, lots and lots of Track,
Lockon, Lubricant, Uncoupling and unloading section and Instruction
Book start as low as $39.95."

The write up continues on the same page in a different caption…

In real life, the Fairbanks-Morse locos carry strings on rainbow-colored

For eye-catching color, you can’t beat the new red, white and blue striped

handsome yellow and green Rutland box car - both new-in-1955!

And what could be more true-to-life than the brand new Evans Auto Loader

THANKS SO MUCH!!!
Thats the info I’ve been looking to find for some time. I found a 2321 with the barrrel car, mil car and caboose at a garage sale and figured it was a set but now I know! I’m now looking to obtain the remaining pieces! Thanks so much for all the help. I think I need to find a 1955/56 catalog to take a look at this set myself!

FECLionel;

The information that I copied to you comes from the 1955
catalog. This set does not appear in the 1956 catalog. The
specific infor is enclosed in quotation marks and is exactly
the way it is printed in the catalog copy. I also have a 1955
dealer’s catalog (printed on pulp paper and in “book” for-
mat rather than the “long” format. The in formation is the
same, just the illustrations are not in color specific to the
items.

SO was this consist ever a real set…It seems kinda large for a factory set?!*
