Anything with Union Pacific on it. I’m tired of going to all the LHS and seeing UP items on shelves. There are other railroads out there manufacturers.
Why must every new release of rolling stock or locos have UP items in the offering?
You want BORING? how about NS Black Hearse paint scheme (not horse, Hearse) scheme, talk about boring…all you neeed is the Addams Family at the controls.
as for Uncle Pete, personal feeling and politics aside, still has one of the best color schemes around, and considering they are the ONLY railroad more than 20 years old other that Jamtrack that havent been merger mangled with a new paint scheme every 5 years, I’d say thats pretty good!
Hi Elliot!
what happened to the pink loco?
AAMOF I was looking for it to share this awesome paint scheme with the gathered masses on this forum so It will come up in a minute!
Here it is: if you think some american roads have “strange” [xx(] schemes, take a look at this:
this is not the wrath of Martha Steward, this diesel was delivered to the dutch national railroad the NS in this scheme in 1957 it is build by Alhstom and has 875 HP and is still operational today
[}:)] if you want to attract more women ( model ) railroaders, this is the way go ![:D][:D]
Thanks for refreshing my memory Lupo. It wasn’t pink it’s # LILAC!!!Unfortunately Lionel tried marketing toy trains to girls this way back in the 50’s. It was a big flop, which makes examples of them very rare and collectable these days.[swg]
YOUR PICTURE is a proposed BNSF merger scheme that should have been. A 'War Bonnet version of the BN ‘Executive’ dark green and cream with red striping. To my eye, Superior, and on EBay the 'Executive paint job is bringing higher prices than ‘Pumplin’ I or II…
I guess some BN exec’s. preferred to bring back the glory days of the GN Empire Builder (they had sold the name to AMTRAK), and since BN (stockwise) was the.stronger of the two finacially, they prevailed.
Penn Central was pretty bad.Worse, was early Conrail where they just painted out the PC scheme with black paint and used a very tiny CR on the all black unit[:(!].Also Florida Fun Train was so garish one needed sunglasses to look at it.Seattle’s Sounder scheme is pretty horrible.UP Armour Yellow, when painted over an SP,SSW,D&RGW,C&NW,MKT,WP,or MP unit[:(!].
I get an almost sadistic pleasure out of seeing dirty, grimey,Up units.makes them look like real locomotives[}:)]!
The original Chicago RTA paint schemes. The locomotives (F40PHs) were blue with a red and brown “up and over” stripe. The painted cars were off-white with orange and brown stripes.
Fortunately, Metra has improved matters. All the cars are now stainless steel and the locomotives have been repainted. The painted cars are being retired.
At the top of the horrible paint scheme list is Southern Pacific’s Lark as on their E7s. Thats really not kwel. While the Black Widow is probably the most hansome configuration ever.
The ugliest and tightest from the same railroad!
The 'Lark" scheme was (Pullman’s) 2 tone grey, as the ‘Lark’ was all Pullman. Same colors used for NYC and UP. Right? “Ugly”?
To the best of my knowlege, SP’s overnight ‘Lark’ was pulled by 'Daylight painted GS-2’s and 4’s, which was duplicated on their E unit’s and PA’s. Earlier versions were all olive drab Heavyweights with steam. Some of SP’s steam had Silver smokebox doors.
The ‘Lark’ was an nightime afterthought from the success of SP’s ‘Daylight’ which metamorphed into an ‘Owl’, ‘Noon’ and 'San Juaquin Daylight’s, most of which were pulled by ‘Daylight’ painted shrouded steam.
The. ‘Black Widow’ scheme was all black except for the aforementioned ‘Daylight’ (Indian Red, yellow Orange, and Silver) colors restricted to just a a nose shield.
The SP ‘Bloody nose’ and grey WAS ugly, rarely washed, and followed the relatively gorgeous ‘Balck Widow’ which was to some - only a shadow of it’s former self.
