What's Missing update

Ok i made some changes

Before

After

I dunno… looks like those “after” shots were taken outside somewhere… you’re not trying to pull the wool over our eyes now, are you?

looks great!

I like that . The stream now needs some ripples painted on, but I admit I don’t know how to do that. The banks look a lot better. I like the sand bar effect around the piers. What is your assesment, you are the artist?

I don’t think he’s even added the water yet! It is 1000% better. And the word artist applies now, I think!

Much much better. I almost don’t recognize it as the same scene.

Depending on what “water” you are going to use, be careful. Some brands have strong capillary action and the water likes to creep up into the stuff along the edges. Keep it as thin as possible.

It looks much, much better now. As pointed out above, depending on what product you’re going to use for water, read the instructions carefully because some require several thin layers and if you pour it all at once it could cause problems.

I used plain ol’ Polyurethane from a hardware store and it tends to creep up, around, over, and through everything.

That was my next question how much to apply

I bought some WS realistic water last year and it has sat all year on my shelf

appears to be ok . i never opened it They recomend 1/8 inch

but how can you tell 1/8 inch

yes i need glasses

Thanks for everyones ideas They were a great help

Still working up the courage to do a live tree

I placed a Mirror at the back under the last bridge

it probably will never be seen but it does help extend the river

My only water try this time around was with some WS that was a year old. It worked pretty well. I may try some envirotex next just to see how that works. I just poured some WS in the area till it covered, about the depth of HO guage tie, and repeated after about a week. One thing I learned was to wait with the last coat until all other scenery was done, otherwise you mess up the surface.

For some reason I can’t quote the note concerning using the Woodland Scenics water product.

Unfortunately I’ve never personally used that specific product, so I have no first hand advise. All I can say is to follow their directions.

Oh yeah, one other thing. I poured a really nice river. The plastic flowed down just like real water would (but a bit slower), then it flowed right off the edge of the table. Don’t forget to make a “dam” at the end of the area so you don’t get a waterfall onto the carpet!

Thanks for the reminder. I’ll lay some newspaper down just in case

I don’t recall the name of the product, but the plastic pellets that have to be melted on a stove before pouring are not a very good choice for water. Our experience on a club layout was that if you get it too hot it turns brown and if you don’t have it hot enough it doesn’t spread out before beginning to harden.

Ok i poured the water and learned a few things

1 My riverbed is not level

2 You should start the pour in the middle to see which way the water is going to run and only pour alittle wait 10 seconds. then start again on the up hill side

3 If there’s a hole anywhere the water will find it {good thing Texas Zephyr reminded me}

4 Even if one side is extreemly shallow wait till the first pour is dry to do another on the shallow side

Because the second pour if done to soon won’t level completely flat

So now i have a tsunami wave in the middle of my river which wouldn’t be too bad except

its running right to left instead of down stream

Grrrrrrrrrrrr

also the water appears cloudy for awhile but does clear as it cures
