I’ve got an old (1925?) Lionel set (Bild #4 engine, two coaches, and an observation car) that belonged to my Dad when he was a kid. It was the first electric train that I played with when I was a kid and it got me interested in the hobby (I was given a Flieshman HO set in the 50’s and have been in that scale ever since). The set is Orange in color, runs well, and is in very good condition with a couple of the original boxes (which are pretty battered).
I’m wonderig the best way to go if I decide to sell it and are the prices you find in books that assign values to Lionel products realistic?
Any help you can offer will certainly be appreciated!
You would be better off posing this question on one of the other Trains.com forums - Classic Toy Trains, as that’s where the train collectors hang out. They are the experts.

Bob… That’s a very good suggestion… Thank you very much!
Can’t suggest best way to sell but do make sure you overprice it relative to input from collectors or books-some nut will buy it at inflated price. I think some buyers of classic Lionel units are out to prove that they have “more money than brains”. Maybe it’s just the “Rosebud” syndrome.
Too bad the boxes aren’t as new, you’d probably faint knowing what they would go for. Friend of a friend had someone pay him $38.00 for an empty Lionel box and the box wasn’t from the '20’s.

And so it goes…
