When a Union Pacific DD35 came to Newark NJ (and other late 1970s NJ shots)

Been busy with the slide scanner and wanted to share some stuff.

First image is the D&H AP-2 power, lead by a patched Lehigh Valley GP38-2 at Oak Island Yard, Newark in November 1976.

Second image is of a derelict Penn Central E8(A) that looks like it had a tree growing out of it, behind the Elizabethport Shops, December 1979.

Third is a patched Penn Central SD45 with the SECR2 freight going under the since removed Ivy Street Bridge in Haworth, December 1979.

Finally, a Union Pacific DD35 getting scrapped at Naporano Iron & Metal in Newark, also in December 1979.

Thanks for looking and corrections are welcome.

Great shots, but the one of the Penn Central E-8 unit was kind of sad…hated to see such an elegent piece of machinery looking so bad.

Definitely an exPRR engine. They were the only road to add lift rings on either side of the door at the frame level.
