When do Bluford 86’ Auto Parts Cars Come out?

I preordered the Bluford Shops 86492 Santa Fe Auto Parts 2-Pack a while back and was wondering how much longer. I haven’t heard anything and I don’t want to miss it

Never heard of Bluford - must not be HO scale?

Oh is this HO, I saw a couple of N-scale posts and thought I was in the right place

Most forums do have sections for HO, N, O etc, but here they don’t. Because of that, if people don’t specify scale, it can cause some confusion. I model HO, but have been into N in the past but I never heard of Buford.

Thanks you had me worried, I get so lost at this site. I should have listed N-Scale in the title.

Anyway here is the link to their site just in case anybody is interested. The cars were announced for Oct 2011 and to be available in April 2012 so I thought.

Followed the link. Some nice photo’s - nice looking auto parts cars. I especially like the blue DT&I!!! I’m a big fan of the Ford FAST auto parts train which ran from somewhere in Ohio to California so I enjoy those auto box cars.

I worked for GM in Los Angles during the early 70’s and would like to have something from that place and time, but almost everything in N-scale is for the Ford plants.

Southern Pacific went to the plant I worked for and there isn’t much to choose from, so I have a mixture. It’s not exactly prototype for GM, but I like the looks of them anyway. Although I was young at the time and don’t remember much about the box cars that came to the plant, I do know that a lot of parts came from Ohio, Michigan and other places in the North East so I’m guessing it’s possible that cars other than SP showed up to the GM plant in LA.

I too lived in California from 1967-69 (San Fernando Valley) and 69-84 Davis/Sacramento area, so I’m a died in wool SP fan but D&RGW more recently. I have read some articles on autoparts trains and one stated that GM preferred the 8 door 86’ autoparts cars, whereas Ford used the 4 door cars.

The autoparts box cars that served the Milpitas plant in CA generally included DT&I, WP, D&RGW, PRR, PC, RI, SP, NW to name most of the major carriers. The Ford FAST trains rotated between competitor RR’s every 3 months between 67 and 82/83 when that plant closed down. I’ll try to find the article because it did have some interesting info on autoparts trains of that time period including GM - it’s train was called the ARRO I believe.

I’m in HO, so I’ve never heard of this company either. But I looked at the website and the cars appear really nice. However, looking at the Sante Fe 86 foot car I believe it says that the cars are due for delivery in the summer. I didn’t see anything that mentioned April as you stated in one of your other posts. My comment to all of these “when will it happen” questions is to contact the vendor and get their answer, rather than some rumored answer here.

(Here is the link I was looking at: http://www.bluford-shops.com/bluford_93_022.htm. Possibly you are looking elsewhere.)

Ok, well then you know of the Van Nuys Plant where I worked.

I’ve been searching for info on this for months and you have provided me with quite a bit, thanks.

Oh and so it does. When I ordered it, I heard April so now I’m confused. Oh well, it’s not a problem. I just didn’t want to miss it when it did finally show up. Things have a problem of disappearing around here if I don’t keep an eye open. Thanks for help.

OK, I now know where I made my mistake, the listing actually read “Pre-Orders Due By April 30th 2012” and I assumed that they were shipping in April. It had been a long while since I placed my order and I just about forgot about them until I saw some on eBay.
