When was the last time you saw an NW2?

Well, today at Eola we saw BNSF westhound freight symbol BRCKCK with two GE road units and (are you sitting down for this one>)…two RLCX model NW2 units trailing the road power…numbers 1207 and 1207. I did a bit of research and found their most recent assignment was at Gallitin Steel in Kentucky but they are obviously on thier way somewhere else…perhaps the scrappers torch? Anybody have any ideas of thier destination? Naturally my cell phone camera is not working today, as I did not get photos of these gems, or the Amtrak California EMD F59 (number 2013) heading west as the third and trailing unit on Amtrak #5 bound for California.

There is still alot of NW2’s around.

Perhaps they’re on their way to Relco over in Albia, IA.

At the Western Pacific RR Museum in Portola, California, you can DRIVE one.

WP #608, in glowing orange, is part of the Rent-a-Locomotive program there.

About nine months ago, on the Inland Lakes Railway, now defunct. I actually got up inside that one, EOLX 15. See here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRvjd2Jf5WQ (I shot that video on the last trip I made there, before they shut down)
