I want to use fake fur on some modules I’m making, but the only kind I’ve found costs 60 plus dollars per yard! Where do modelers who use fake fur buy it at a more cost effective price?
Cruise through a Salvation Army or Goodwill thrift shop. They usually have plenty of used clothing cheap. Might have just what your looking for but no guarantees.

I bought some a while back from Joann Fabrics. I don’t recall it being $60/yard, that is ridiculus! Watch the sunday papers, because there are often ads with 40% off one item coupons. You might be able to use those on the fur.
That really pricey fake fur is made to look the most like real mink or jaguar or zebra or other fancy animal furs which is usually what we do not want. The local American Science & Surplus store has odd shaped swatches in cream colors that they sell very cheaply – but it is one of those places where you can never count on things being in stock.
Be aware that some fake fur actually is animal hair – even dog hair – so if you have allergies, you might be affected.

The fake fur you are looking for is the colored stuff (preferably white) made of cheap synthetics. I would go to Joanne’s Fabrics and ask if they have any remnants. You should be able to get what you need pretty cheap.
Try Walmart,I heard they have cheap, fake fur.
Michaels, AC moore and Walmart have small packages of fake fur. Johann sells bolts of fake fur at reasonable rates and offers discount coupons usually available at the store.

Since I fly fish alot and tie my own flies, I work alot with fake furs. Try looking on ebay in the fly tying supplies area. I get my fake /real furs there. Depending on how much you are needing, as most furs only come in swatches of 2 to 6 inches square. Most are fairly inexpensive.
This link will get you to the general area, just search for “fur” or “hair”. You will see alot of dyed fur, but there are alot of natural as well, just takes some looking. Also try Hobby Lobby or Michael’s.

Go to Wall Mart and pick up some faux fur in the crafts section,I just bought some for about $4.00 the one I bought is 12x15 inches.
Walmarts fur is probably the cheapest priced and they have a small variety of colours.

There is a bunch on these two sites. I see it From $8/yd to $35+/yd. Lot of different textures too. That Mendels site has a 5 free samples offer on it.
