My layout is HO scale 1940’s or earlier and I am having such a hard time finding fire trucks for my structure fire scene. Where can I find some?.. or what companies make or made any? PLEASE HELP!
Alloy Forms and Jorden have some older trucks…
Jim
Sheepscot has older trucks in kit form, mix and match cabs and bodies. http://www.sheepscotscale.com/site/

7/6/17 above links were for Jorden Products which are no longer made and not available from that seller. Might find some on EBAY
While these may seem to be a little old for the 1940’s. Fire aparatus is very rugged and also expensive so usually well maintained and kept in service for a iong time.
The Model T could supply parts to bash a latter truck.
The Aerial Ladder could be “modernized” with a latter tractor. I’ve seen a photo of one with a latter tractor still in service in the 1950’s.
All of the above could provide parts
Sylvan makes several 1940s fire trucks. These are resin kits. Scroll down a bit:

If you’d like to try building some resin fire/emergency vehicle kits, Sylvan Scale Models has some offerings for the 1930s-40s-50s era.

My old home town had a fire truck, a pumper, from the 1920s that was mostly used by the volunteers for practice. But when it was needed for a really big fire it was ready to serve right into the 1960s. Eventually it was sold to a collector.
At the fire department museum in Rochelle (there are things to see in Rochelle other than the railroad park) they have a beautifully preserved fire truck from the 1920s that is now used as a hearse for the funerals of deceased firemen. But in a really big fire around 1970 when they needed everything they could throw at the blaze the old unit was called into actual service one last time.
These examples are not typicaly but it is not outlandish to think that in some towns a firetruck such as Jordan and Sylvan make would still be in service 20 or even 30 years later.

Like others have said Sylvan, makes a 1939-40 GMC pumper and 1942-47 Ford pumper:

Thanks for the link to the '41 GMC firetruck, I’ve been looking for a Chevy firetruck of that year forever! Was thinking of bashing a CMW chevy 41-46, but I ordered the one in the link.
