I started a Railking RTR set and have already spent about $700.00 already buying more track and accessories and I am having a very hard time finding a single source for my goodies. I mean I got a place for my O31 curves, a place for my 072 Curves, a place for my figures, etc… Does anyone know of an online store that pretty much has a complete inventory in of the MTH Product line and is a legitimate store? Or pretty much everything in their RTR sets and accessories catalog. Thanks for your help! ![]()
So far, since re-entering this hobby last fall and starting anew with N scale, I’ve discovered that various items usually are purchased through various sources:
Track, scenery, paint, detail and scratchbuilding supplies: Local Hobby Shop
Locos and rolling stock: Ebay or other internet sales, swap meets/train shows
Things like track, scenery and the like are more “capital” expenses for building a layout, you will hardly need those items once you layout is mostly complete. But after it is, you will likely continue buying locos and rolling stock.
If memory serves me right, I got most of my track at Hobby Lobby, and though I’ve bought a number of items from my favorite hobby shop, I’ve purchased most of my locos and rolling stock off of ebay…

Trainworld has the MTH line.
Hare’s Art & Hobby in Alexandria, Louisiana. I buy almost all my model railroad supplies there. It’s the closest hobby shop there is to me, still a 120 mile round trip.
mrsam3, we are an “inclusive” group here, and we welcome everyone’s inputs. But, you’d probably be better off asking O-gauge questions on the Classic Trains forum.
I try to support my LHS whenever I can, even if it costs a bit more. A lot more? Well, if it’s so much more that I would never buy it at the higher price, then I’ll make an exception. A good LHS, incidentally, will usually get things for you. For example, I’ve had them order a number of on-sale items from Walthers. I get the sale price, and I don’t pay shipping. The best of both worlds, in my book.
Uh, better make that the Classic Toy Trains forum - Classic Trains is for the 40’s-60’s railroads.
Enjoy
