Also was able to go to the DuPage County Fairgrounds once a month for the Great Midwest Train Show. THE BEST!!! Greasy burgers, tons of sellers, some GREAT layouts (Little Q especially), etc… Dad and I used to go out to the White Pines Model Railroad Club in Bensonsville to see their GIGANTIC layout.
Good stuff…

Carmichael, in north-central California, just out of Sacramento and about seven miles west of Roseville, where the big UP (former SP) yard is. It’s about fifteen miles west of the Sierra Foothills and the old SP Donner Pass line. So naturally, I model Rio Grande Big Steam, right? Go figure.

White Lake, Michigan. West of Pontiac, and North of Detroit, but not as far from Detroit as I’d like to be. Somebody made the comment earlier about being in the right and left armpits. I guess Detroit is farther down and to the rear, if you get my meaning?[:D]

Groton, Connecticut. Submarine Capital of the World. Home of the U.S.'s largest submarine builder, Electric Boat and also home to the U.S. Naval Submarine Base New London. (Don’t ask why NAVSUBASE New London is in Groton. The answer is long, involved, and not particularly interesting.)
Can you tell that I’m a retired Navy submariner?
Just outside of Whitewater Wi. along the awesome WSOR rail line. ( Wisconsin & Southern )
