Does anybody out there know who has acquired the O scale line of detail parts previously produced by Custom Finishing? Sometime after the death of Custom Finishing’s founder Bob Rsaza, the HO line of detail parts – as well as the name “Custom Finishing” — was acquired by a business in Pflugerville, Texas. However, I am unable to determine who acquired the O line. You can find a dealer here and there who has a couple of these items in inventory, but doesn’t know who owns the line now. Can anybody help?
I was at Des Plaines Hobbies last month, and I can assure you that he did have a lot of O-scale detail parts packaged for Des Plaines Hobbies that looked like ex-Custom Finishing parts. For example, he had many New Haven RR detail parts one would not normally expect from a mid-western hobby shop and someone who wasn’t Bob Rzaza (who was a big-time NH modeler).
I actually bought some of them (NH cab signal box, air horns, etc.) because I have some O-scale mantlepiece models I’m in the process of doing up for New Haven. It’s kinda of shocking to go from HO scale, where a pair of airhorns can cost $1.00 to O-scale where a single WABCO E-2 horn is $4 to $5…per horn! Ouch. Superdetailing in O-scale is painful to the wallet… [;)]
Says "Custom Finishing Models purchased Custom Finishing by Bob Rzasa in November 2008 and has moved operations to the Austin, Texas area. We still provide the same high quality, lead free pewter kits as well as detail parts listed in the Walthers catalog and website.
Custom Finishing Models will also assemble any kit which includes installation of hydraulic lines, window glazing, and paint to display on your layout or display shelf. Some of the completed models are shown below."
I looked at the price sheet and it appears that all the items listed are for HO. The original question was for O scale. But maybe I missed the O scale items on the list.
