Where to buy 2.2 & 2.5mm brass rod?

I am having a very difficult time finding 2.2 and 2.5mm solid brass rod. Does anyone know of a source?

I am in Toronto, Canada incidentally in case there is somewhere local I could find it.

Thanks.

check the welding supply sections in your hardware store.

Absolutely correct to try a welding supply shop. If you need exact sizing however, you will need to go to Micro Mark in the US.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys.

Yes Blind Bruce, the problem I am having is locating those exact sizes of brass rod. I looked up some online welding supplies places and Micro Mark but didn’t see those sizes listed anywhere.

The closest I have gotten is at some model supplies stores.

Incidentally, here are the sizes in inches:

2.2mm = 0.0866"

2.5mm = 0.0984"

Thanks again.

Well, if your requirements aren’t really exact, 3/32 rod (K&S Metals) is 2.4mm. 2.2mm, on the other hand, is a bit unusual…

Thanks Gary. I have actually looked through the K&S Metals site before.

Unfortunately, 3/32" wont work - I really need a true 2.5 mm.

Yes, 2.2mm is even harder to find. I could go up to 2.25mm actually.

The main problem seems to be that not many places stock small metric sizes, they only have fractions of an inch up to 32nds, sometimes 64ths. My sizes fall somewhere in between.

Thanks again.

Try these guys. I get most of my scratchbuilding supplies from them. They seem to have one of the bigger selections of brass shapes. My catolog here at home shows they have 2.5mm tubing, if that would work.

OK, I see that you are fussy[:)] How about having someone with a jewellers lathe turn down a larger piece? That is, if you don’t need them too long.

You may have to construct a drawplate,which is a piece of hardened steel and draw a larger wire through it to get your exact size.You’ll have to anneal the wire to soften it then reharden after drawing. BILL
