I have a small metal to plastic Loco repair to do in an area that will be subjected to some shear stresses in both planes. The surface contact area is roughly a ‘U’ shape, about 2 mm max. width at any one point & mating surfaces are about 10mm total length if the ‘U’ was flattened out.
It needs to be jigged for a precise match up
What type of adhesive will give the strongest bond for metal to plastic??
CA (cyanoacrylate) should work for you. I would go with a “thicker” CA, as this will allow you a little more working time to mate things up correctly. You’ll still need to work fairly quickly though.
I am partial to JB Weld for heavy duty jobs. Its usually the product that I use when CA has failed. I have yet to have it not work for what I needed. Its not the easist to apply, but it holds the best.
I would use some type of ‘5 minute’ epoxy. CA(super glue) really does not have a lot of ‘shear’ strength and I would suspect it will fail if the ‘fix’ is subject to lots of ‘motion’.
