Hi I just got 40 Trix boxcars. I must say that they are very nice. But the plastic couplers looked awful. To plastic and I want to put Kadee’s on them. Which Kadee would fit? I haven’t seen coupler boxes like that before.
Thanks
Magnus

These are so-called NEM (norms of European model railroading) coupler boxes in combination with a swinging device for close coupling. God only knows why they did apply this to these cars because American rolling stock doesn’t have buffers. I did change my cars to tightly applied Kadee boxes, but on some of these TRIX cars this can require some efforts.
For the case you intend to leave as they are KADEE offers their couplers for those NEM boxes. These are # 17, 18, 19 and 20 - ranging from short to extra long. I would recommend to use the short one, then it looks acceptable.
Do you just snap them into that box?
Thanks for the help.
Magnus
Ok,
I figured it out. Now all I need is lots of these, in Sweden they are 8 dollars per pair so I’m looking for a bulkpack?
Magnus
Yes they simply snap in. $8 per pair? That’s heavy! Try ebay. I often see them there much cheaper. Or order them directly. At their web site they are $3.75 for TWO pair!
In the “Prototype Information for the Modeller” forum (at the bottom of the list of the five MR forums) you’ll see a discussion about Trix trucks and couplings, which may also help you.

Sorry, edit necessary: they are $4.50, but still a difference, is it?
Thank you, I’ll check it out. Now a correction on my part, the 8$ was apparently for two pairs so that makes it a bit better. Still, 40 cars is gonna cost me. Thank you everyone.
