There is a HP difference.
They took the CP 90’s out of service? Anyone have any ideas why…other than possible reliability issues like UP?
On another note, the 80MAC’s have a 20 cylinder 5000 h.p. engine, but on the exterior they are identical to the 90/43 MAC’s. COnrail was the only company to puchase them. They took 28 and later took the 2 demonstrators for a total of 30. I read somewhere that Chicago & Northwestern had placed an order for 80’s, but the merger with UP cancelled it.
Would someone explain what the “U” in SD40u is? I know Santa Fe had a bunch of them. Plus they also had SD45u’s as well.
Generally, upgraded. Probably had some improved parts added, but not a total rebuilt to -2 electronics.
which is the better engine the 90MAC (6000hp) or the GE AC6000 ?
6 of 1…half dozen of the other…
Either way they both were a bit of a flop…reliability was BAD…
Tried to hurry it into production and shot themselves in the foot.

Not to criticize your work Chad but your list is way oversimplified. By no means were all F units 1400 HP and all E’s are 1800. There are other examples in your list with the same problem. You have to be careful with stuff like this because someone will pick it up and repeat it as gospel.
The biggest problem with the SD90MAC-H and the AC6000CW was the fact both locomotives had serious reliability issues with their prime movers, though GE did manage to stamp out most of them and the AC6000CW is in wide service on the UP system, primarily on long-distance intermodal trains.
With the tougher EPA mandates on lower diesel emissions, that’s why GE came out with the Evolution locomotive and EMD came out with the SD70ACe, both of which use well-tried prime movers but with modern cab designs and definitely modern emission control systems.
Chad,
Do you have a list of that alphabet soup EMD used on export locomotives too?
Thanks,

They have been leased under EMLX reportings marks to KCS. You can see them at their Deramus yard in Shreveport.

I agree. How does the BL1 or BL2 fit into that list? Or the GMD1? Or FL9?
On F units, HP ranged from 1,350 (FT) up to 1,750 (F9/FP9).
These are just some examples.

Sorry Marc, no I don’t, but the thread that I originaly posted that list on also had a post by someone else with export designations. The search feature dosn’t work for me on the new forum but mabee someone else can dig it up.

Marc, this website should answer most of your questions about EMD and GMD export locomotives.
[8D]BN owned some prior to the BNSF merger & i belive SP also owned some before the merger i may be wrong on that one [:D]

BN had SD70MACs no SD90’s SP has 25 SD70M’s SP had ordered 2 AC60’s but they were delivered to UP.
If anything, the SD9043s are SD75MACs! I refer to them as such since the H engine is a dead issue as far as the “New” EMD is concerned. The engine setup of an SD75 and SD9043 are identical. The SD9043, has heavier duty AC transmission gear, since they were supposed to be upgraded to run with 6000HP H engines. That will not happen, and the SD75MACs will live out their days as such.
the SD80MAC and the SD90MAC have one difference i can see. the SD80MACs have high headlights and the SD90MAC has those ugly noselights. the SD80MAC is my favorite EMD widenose
