Deschane made who is your favorite model railroader(s) 1. But after reading his message I though why not make a poll version of deschane’s.But the main idea is still who is your favorite model railroader?
I am a bit partial as I work on (visit, help wired, run trains on, etc) one of the above’s layout most every Wednesday.
Sorry, but I find your poll very silly.
You listed three old-time legends of the hobby, out of dozens…and three well-known contemporary hobbyists, out of hundreds.
What is your point, aside from some curious need to post???

I could not vote with the listing given. I think there are many that have had a profound impact on my approach to the hobby over the years. The list does not mention Gordon Odegard, Art Curren, Andy Sperandeo, Frank Ellison and many others who have had a significant impact on the model railroad hobby. The list is too big for a simple listing. In all honesty, if you sit and think about it, your favorite model railroader should be you. You are the one creating your empire. You are the one that is performing the creative work that lets your involvement in the hobby bring you satisfaction. You are the creator of your miniature world. Perhaps the question might be better asked: what model railroader has had the greatest influence on your approach to the hobby? Just a thought.

No,I feel that is not a fair poll and seems to be loop sided.There are many great modelers out there.John Allen is long dead let him rest in peace his time has come and gone and I dare say he was not all that great even in his time there was others better…Including one upstart we have with us today.That is none other then Allen McClellan.His layout first appeared in track side photos in the early 60s.
I can not even count George Sellios of being one of the greats after all he is a professional model designer,builder and manufacturer of building kits…So IMHO he is not even qualified to be counted among the true greats of the hobby…
Come back with a real poll with the greats in it.
And the one with most votes gets a cover story in the December MR heh heh heh!
Tom named three giants in our hobby. Frank Ellison’s Delta Lines (I think that what it was) was years ahead of its time and his series of articles fascinated me as a kid. By writing construction articles ranging from simple lineside industries to scratch building a steam locomotive, Gordon Odegard has to be regarded as one of the most versitile modelers of his time. Finally, I’m sure there are literally thousands of modelers who first took a saw to a building kit after reading one of Art Curren’s articles. How could you read one of his articles without saying “I can do that!”
There are simply too many greats out there to do a poll. I agree that MR should sponsor a Hall of Fame.

I too , am part of the Wednesday night crew, so I am biased. That being said, I am wondering why Tony Koesters name was not one of the choices. When I re-entered the hobby 15 years ago, his Midland Road grabbed my attention, and I decided that some day, I want a layout like that too!
Pelle Soeburg, simply because he models what I do, Modern Union Pacific, and does a good job at it.
