Lately, I purchased two stock cars in a white box saying Art.: 6221. Stock Car - Armour. A fine model. Yesterday I found a description of the car at the Atlas’Archive.
I was intrigued by Jeff Wilsons book “Commodities by Freight Car” where on page 14 two stock cars are shown converted to haul grain.
Does anybody know the origins of above mentioned car, who produced it and which railroad lines purchased or leased such cars?
I had looked for stock cars on the Internet and found some cars that seem to have been converted the way Jeff describes in his marvellous book. Yet, not this type although some Mexican cars look very similar.
For detailing, I added grab irons made from paper and wire, and running boards from Smoky Mountains Model Works.
After detailing I started weathering by painting the boards with Vallejo “Old Wood” and then painting the sides with Warhammer Doombull Brown, although being a “layer” paint it works fine. Finally I used powders added to a water/alcohol mix to wash the car with dirt and secondly a wash of green to represent lichen etc. Rust was applied with rust texture by Vallejo and Warhammer.
I am looking forward to information on the prototype car.
Kind regards,
Andreas
