Who makes or is going to make any N scale airplanes? Would like to have airport

Wanting to start over in N scale but I have to have an airport or at least part of
an airport on my next railroad. I’m a pilot by trade so got to have a country airport or a corner of a big airport next to the tracks.

I can’t seem to find any suitable N scale aircraft.

Was kind of thinking of making my own but I’ve never made anything like that before. I guess I could use resin or pewter like GHQ.

Any Ideas?

If I can’t find a source I may just go back to HO scale again.

Thanks,

Flyer

Minicraft/Hasagawa made 1/144th scale airliner kits - sorta close to N(1/160th). Even a 737 is pretty big on a layout!

Try this link from Boeing.

We build the 737 fuselage in Wichita and ship by rail to Seattle. I just got 3 of the -700’s to go on my layout. They must have increased the price in 2006 because in November they were only $15 each.

Check squadron hobbies, they carry al kinds of aircraft.

Do a Google search for “1/160 aircraft” (why doese nobody remember Googling stuff like this?). I came up with over 24,500 hits, including a link to Herpa, which makes civil aircraft in 1/1000, 1/400, 1/200 and 1/160:

http://www.herpa.de/herpa_CMS/(tt4umz55bz05iwyjczyv4xza)/en-GB,193,0,1,0.aspx

The line includes most modern Boeing and Airbus aircraft, and this absolutely beautiful 1/200 version of the Lockheed Constellation:

I’ve got planes flying over my layout, and the closest I could get to N scale was 1/144. You can’t even tell the scale difference unless you just happen to be real picky…

I didn’t know that there was 1/144.

I would have recommended the 1:200 planes, like those from Herpa.

I could be wrong, but it sure seems that that’s what it said on the boxes. I’ll have to check and get back with you later.

1/144 is one of the “standard” model airplane scales

1/144 is 111% of N scale, Greatmosels http://www.greatmodels.com/ lists 432 entries
1/200 is 80% of N scale, Greatmodels lists 105 entries

1/72 commonly used by HO modelers is 120% of HO scale, 2933 entries

1/48 O scale, 1678 entries

I guess I could try a 1/144 model and see how it looks on someone else’s layout.

However I am kinda picky about scale.

I did search for 1/160 aircraft but not with google, did’nt really find what I was looking for.

Thanks for the ideas,
