Who makes the best HO Scale Amtrak P42 and superliner coaches?

I am begening to model the coast starlight in HO scale and was wondering who makes the best Amtrak P42 and superliner coaches? I don’t care if the P42 is made by the same brand that the coaches are made by.

Hello there,

Since you didn’t specify which scale, I’ll go with what I have, HO scale. Athearn and Kato make great P42 engines. As far as Superliners, Kato and Walthers made them and I think Con-Cor made them. I have many of the Walthers as they did various phases, Kato did some in Phase III and the rest in phase IVb / VI.

I’ll assume HO as well.

I have three of the Katos with the Loksound decoders. They are excellent, if you can find them. I got mine when they first were available.

I like the plating on the Walthers Superliners. Anything else just looks like aluminum paint. ¢¢
