I guess with small lines you can see anything. The wierd thing was not seeing the prototype engine, which from all the rail-fan pictures I’ve seen operates an hour and a half west of me, but that it was mu’ed with two SW1500s hauling 50+ hoppers of ballast.
I kind of went at it the other way around… I saw a picture of an Amtrak in phase III with two P-42s at the head pulling a baggage car and full consist of passenger cars, which I thought looked so cool I went out and bought a set just like it, but as far as modeling first and then seeing the engine, no sir, I can’t say that I’ve been that lucky.

i got an athearn genesis conrail bay window caboose with operation lifesaver logo. was gonna paint over the conrail whne i had a chance. then a couple of months later i was in the allentown,pa area (i used to drive a truck otr) saw a conrail caboose in a yard behind the
truckstop i was at, was there over a weekend on sunday grabbed my camera and walked over to it. it was the prototype caboose for the model i got exact same road number. now im gonna just leave that as is and detail it per the pics i have and get another `.
I have seen a few of the engines I model–CCT 70-ton GE #30, Sacramento Northern #402, SN #712 (formerly WP 712–or is it 711? I forget.) and most of the handful of remaining Sacramento Northern electric power. I haven’t seen a WP S1 or one of the GE 44-tonners in SN colors in person, but then I haven’t been up to Portola yet.
Dave, I voted bledder just ‘cuz’…that’s it…just cuz. But darn you, you beat me to it. [:D]
I am ashamed to say that I can only recall seeing, in actual operations, a Conny, a Garratt, and whatever I might have seen in the INCO yards around Sudbury back in the mid-50’s. I was three or four then, so I can’t say what they were. All I can say is it was a deep-rooted and abiding affection for steam at first sight.
i have never seen any of my CNW units. i have seen the sister to my UP SD90. MY S3 might be the one thats in Green bay but i’m not sure. and i ahve seen ATSF FP45 number 92 and have a model of it
Hey Chip,
Just for kicks I enter “bledder” in the online American Heritage Dictionary. It said “no matches
found for bledder… did you mean bladder?”. And for some reason I felt the need to visit
the restroom [%-)]. Dave
I’ve not to my recollection seen a Reading GP-7 or RS-3, but I’ll bet I did and just don’t remember it. I certainly didn’t see any Reading FAs.I have seen T-1’s 2102 and 2124, but not in operation. I’ve ridden over former Reading rails but none of the equipment was former Reading. Oh yeah 've seen a few more locos, an Alco 630 and a 430, FP7, SW1, GP30 - oh wait, they DO have an RS-3.
I have a few Guilford MEC GP40’s ( HO and N, 2 different numbers). I don’t know If I’ve ever seen them, but I might have when I went to maine last year. My hotel room had windows facing the tracks! As for my other stuff, I have never seen a GP60M, CF7, Any other western units, auto racks, well cars, or any 6 axle unit in real life. It sucks living in a “dry” 9 (railroadless) town[:(]
